Job Description: The Medical Supply Technician will be responsible for the decontamination inspection assembly highlevel disinfection sterilization and distribution of medical instruments and equipment. Services will be provided to the Surgical Specialty (OR) Clinics (Specialty Podiatry Ophthalmology Dental ENT) and other hospital departments requiring sterile processing. The contractor must meet or exceed nationally recognized standards set by the Office of Sterile Processing (VA Governing) Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) FDA CDC and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Key Responsibilities: - Instrument Decontamination & Inspection: Receive and inspect contaminated instruments from various departments ensuring they are free from damage and in proper working condition.
- Cleaning & Sterilization: Follow Instructions for Use (IFU) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to properly clean instruments removing contaminants such as blood tissue and body fluids through soaking scrubbing brushing rinsing ultrasonic equipment and automated washers.
- Tray & Set Assembly: Assemble instrument trays based on surgical schedules and clinic requirements ensuring correct arrangement and functionality of instruments.
- Equipment Functionality & Troubleshooting: Disassemble inspect and troubleshoot complex surgical instruments before sterilization.
- Sterile Processing & Distribution: Prepare and distribute sterilized equipment to operating rooms clinics and other hospital departments.
- Comprehensive Tray Assembly: Assemble a full range of instrument sets from basic four or fivepiece trays to complex sets containing up to 100 instruments including arthroscopic ENT lap chole eye procedures orthopedic and fullmouth extraction sets.
Required Skills & Experience: - Experience handling medical instruments from operating rooms dental clinics endoscopy wound care podiatry and ophthalmology units.
- Proficiency in sterilization techniques decontamination methods and compliance with healthcare sterilization standards.
- Strong attention to detail ability to troubleshoot surgical instruments and knowledge of sterile processing best practices.
