Job Description

The IT Project Manager oversees the implementation and integration of thirdparty applications as part of Epic EHR Program.




Role Description

The IT ProjectManager oversees the implementation and integration of thirdparty applicationsas part of Epic EHR Program. The project manager will be responsible formanaging multiple Health Information Technology (HIT) projects from multiple ITtechnology disciplines (i.e. hardware software applications developmentnetwork infrastructure etc.) and assist with business process reengineeringefforts with healthcare administrators clinicians and allied health professionals.

Will beaccountable for developing managing and monitoring project schedules assignedand as it relates to the overall EHR Program Master Schedule. The projectmanager is responsible for providing additional coordination and communicationfor their team and reports to the EHR PMO Director.

KeyResponsibilities

Management Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the EHR ProgramDirector EHR PMO Director Application Manager and other project managers tocoordinate project activities.
  • Ensure coordination andcommunication between NCDHHS and the Office of the State Chief Information Officer(CIO) Department of Information Technology (DIT) and the DIT/EnterpriseProject Management Office (EPMO).
  • Experience with Health InformationTechnology (HIT) projects with an emphasis on clinical information systems and healthcareapplication interoperability.

Must haveexperience working with Epic EHR System and integrating ThirdParty ClinicalApplications into the Epic EHR System such as:

o Computrition(Dietary System)

o KonicaMinolta (Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)

o MiPACS(Dental PACS System).

  • Assist the EHR PMO Director andApplication Manager with the development of business cases for approval by theInformation Technology Board and Governance (ITGB).
  • Knowledge of PMI standards forproject management is required experience with Waterfall and Agilemethodologies preferred.
  • Develop andmaintain project plans according to State and NCDHHS IT Project Management Methodology;must be familiar with Microsoft Project and MS SharePoint
  • Maintain the scope schedule andquality of the project in their specific application areas.
  • Must have Indepth knowledge of ITproject management IT project budgeting costing QA methodologies processes andstandards.
  • Familiarlywith IT procurements and vendor/contract management ensuring contractdeliverables are met.
  • Advise andcoach team members by providing guidance on project issues criticalkeysuccess factors of the project and lessons learned.
  • Set clearexpectations for team members with proven ability to provide regular day today planning and organizing the work of others.
  • Identify andmanage issues and risks assuring appropriate resolution/escalation andmitigation strategies are documented and status tracked.

Core responsibilities:

  • Develop project plans and project artifacts.
  • Assist the business with thedevelopment of business cases for governance approval.
  • Maintain project schedules in theState Project Management System
  • Maintain project budgets requestedby management.
  • Assist as a stakeholder support liaisonfor their areas assigned.
  • Identify and work with the team totroubleshoot issues.
  • Guideworkflow design system build and test and analyze other technical issuesassociated with various vendor applications.
  • Responsiblefor building the project schedule to work breakdown structure (WBS) level with projectteam and vendor participation.
  • Serve as aliaison between organizational needs vendor staff and Epic implementation staff.
  • Maintainregular communication with Epic and vendor staff representatives includingparticipating in weekly project team meetings.
  • Work withEpic representatives vendor staff and end users to ensure the system meetsthe organizations business needs.
  • Develop an understanding ofoperational needs to set the direction for the organizations workflows.
  • Participate in the coordinating oftraining for end users as needed.
  • Support Epic and thirdparty vendorswith coordination of system and end user testing.
  • Review the status of projects andissues on an ongoing basis with leadership.
  • Provide counseling and advising tosenior leadership regarding issues and risks process reengineering andtechnology issues.
  • Hold weekly communications withproject team members to discuss the status of deliverables shared issues end user concerns budget and upcoming milestones.
  • Develop reports for executivemanagement review and effectively communicate project status and deliverablesto leadership.
  • Must have strong conflictresolution and management excellent creative thinking and problemsolvingskills and attention to detail analytical thinking and organization skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor s degree in computerscience or a related IT field business administration healthcareadministration project management or closely related degree from anappropriately accredited institution and seven years of experience in ITproject management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PMPcertification Preferred.
