Job Description

Are you a tax professional with a passion for precision compliance and driving operational excellence Join SGS Australia as a Tax Specialist and contribute to the success of our business by ensuring seamless tax compliance reporting and risk management. Then come join the SGS team in the Perth Head Office.

As a Tax Specialist you will work closely with internal teams external advisors and tax authorities to manage all aspects of tax compliance accounting and reporting. Your expertise will help drive accuracy mitigate risks and maintain compliance with local and international tax requirements.

Responsibilities include however not limited to:

Tax Compliance

  • Assist with timely and accurate preparation and lodgement of annual tax compliance obligations including:
    • Australian consolidated income tax return.
    • New Zealand and PNG income tax returns.
    • Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns for Australia and New Zealand.
    • ESS reporting and withholding tax reporting.
  • Prepare and lodge monthly tax compliance obligations such as GST returns for Australia and New Zealand.
  • Collaborate with the Tax Manager Group Tax and external advisors on Local Files and Transfer Pricing Documentation for international transactions.
  • Support additional indirect tax returns such as Branch Wages Tax (Timor Leste) and PNG GST returns.
  • Prepare periodic Fuel Tax Credit claims and assist HR/Payroll teams with payroll tax and other employment tax lodgements.
  • Ensure all tax payments are prepared and lodged on time.

Tax Accounting & Reporting

  • Assist in preparing tax effect accounting for key reporting periods.
  • Support the preparation of income tax note disclosures for inclusion in annual financial statements.
  • Prepare tax working papers reconciliations and other statutory reporting documentation.

International & Transfer Pricing

  • Identify and manage international tax risks including PE issues and expatriate tax matters.
  • Support withholding tax compliance and reconciliation ensuring adherence to DTAAs and applicable laws.
  • Liaise with tax authorities to obtain tax residency and withholding tax certificates.
  • Apply Group Tax Policies to transactions with SGS affiliates.

Other Responsibilities

Stakeholder Management

  • Work with internal and external auditors tax authorities and business stakeholders on taxrelated matters.
  • Assess and deliver tax training across the organization as required.
  • Draft and obtain tax advice when necessary.

Business Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain tax governance documentation and policies.
  • Review and test internal controls related to tax processes.
  • Monitor changes in local tax legislation and communicate their impact on reporting requirements.
  • Review tax clauses in customer or supplier contracts.
  • Provide tax guidance on new business opportunities scope changes and contract renewals.

Qualifications :

To excel in this role you will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of taxrelated experience.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) qualification.
  • Strong analytical and interpretation skills in tax compliance and reporting.
  • Familiarity with PNG and New Zealand tax regulations (desirable).
