Job Description

The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government City agencies and City employees vendors with City contracts individuals and entities that receive City funds.

DOIs Squad 5 which oversees Cityelected officials Cityfunded notforprofit organizations City agencies involved in the City election process the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) the Department for the Aging (DFTA) the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) and the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) seeks a highly skilled and motivated attorney to serve as Senior Investigative Attorney. The Senior Investigative Attorney will conduct and assist a variety of highly confidential and sensitive investigations into corruption fraud waste and misconduct involving New York City officials employees and persons or entities doing business with the City.

The Senior Investigative Attorney will be responsible for among other things:
1. Drafting and editing a variety of documents for both public and internal audiences including complex investigative reports and legal memoranda;
2. Reviewing and analyzing legal documents financial records and other documents including contracts vendor records agency policies and controls;
3. Conducting legal research and analysis;
4. Preparing subpoenas and document requests and managing responses;
5. Conducting interviews of witnesses and subjects; and
6. Working collaboratively with other investigative units prosecutorial bodies and City agencies.

The ideal candidate will have extensive legal writing experience including writing and editing investigative reports and case referrals preparing investigation summaries drafting subpoenas and court orders and authoring legal correspondence and memoranda.
