Job Description

The Lab Technologist is responsible for the execution of a broad range of bench test procedures used in raw material qualification and testing.  In this position you will work in a fast paced customer focused and challenging environment. Laboratory technologists assist with the receiving labeling testing and analyzing of samples in a sterile environment. They assist in the design and execution of laboratory testing according to standard procedures as well as maintain accurate computer records of the process and results. This role will be performing quality control and quality assurance procedures while complying with all applicable local state and federal laboratory requirements. The work requires excellent attention to detail effective written and verbal communication skills the ability to multitask and be flexible with tasks and schedules and the ability to work independently in a team environment. This role requires onsite work as well as ability to work overtime and offschedule days as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs
  • Monitor operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with the Companys quality system requirements through training and adherence to policies procedures and processes
  • Other duties as assigned or become evident

Qualifications :

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor Degree or Associate Degree in Biological Science required
  • Minimum one (1) year previous laboratory or clinical experience
  • Laboratory dexterity and understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; knowledge of large Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) and Laboratory Information Management (LIMS) systems a plus.
  • Good written and verbal communication. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform precise repetitive tasks with hands such as pipetting handling small equipment and manipulating delicate lab tools.
  • Must have excellent vision with or without correction to accurately read lab instruments observe small details under a microscope and identify samples and reagents.
  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time especially during laboratory processing and analysis.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds including laboratory equipment containers and supplies as needed.
  • Bending and Reaching: Frequent bending reaching and twisting motions required to access shelves equipment and laboratory stations.
  • Environmental Exposure: Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to chemicals biological samples and other laboratory materials following all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ability to wear and comply with safety protocols involving protective gear such as gloves lab coats safety glasses and masks.
