Lead Statistician (Oncology Drug Development)


Salary: £75000 £90000 pa depending on experience benefits

Reports to: Chief Drug Development Scientist

Department: Research & Innovation

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week (other flexibleworking requests will also be considered if it meets business needs

Location: Stratford London (High flex – we’d expect you to be in the office 1 or 2 days a month).

We have a new exciting opportunity for a Lead Statistician to join our Centre for Drug Development (CDD).


About the team

The Cancer Research UK Centre for Drug Development (CDD) is a team of around 100 staff with core skills in early phase drug development. The CDD sits at the heart of the charity’s innovation network of Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres and serves as a pivotal enabler for the translation of novel therapeutic concepts from bench to bedside. We are now set to embark on an exciting period of growth and strategic evolution that will underpin our ambition to become the ‘goto’ European centre for drug development in the noncommercial sector. We have recently put in place collaborative agreements with likeminded funders of cancer research the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) and the Norwegian Cancer Society (NCS) to support joint efforts in translating research into real patient benefit.


What will you be doing

We have created a new role for an experienced statistician to act as a strategic partner for project teams in providing statistical expertise for the design conduct delivery and reporting of CDDsponsored clinical trials. You will be joining at a pivotal moment in the evolution of the CDD and this role offers an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the design of early phase clinical trials investigating a broad range of next generation therapeutics.


Key responsibilities include:


  • To secure statistical expertise for study design protocol development and delivery of CDDsponsored clinical trials.
  • Ensure a consistent approach is taken across the CDD trial portfolio by acting as the primary point of contact for project teams with external statisticians.
  • Preparation of requests for proposals for statistical support from external vendors/consultants and lead on review and selection.
  • Where appropriate fulfil the role of trial statistician for CDDsponsored clinical studies.
  • Liaise with relevant functions to support the operational delivery of clinical studies including development of statistical analysis plans and electronic case report forms.
  • Provision of statistical input into the preparation of clinical study reports and trial publications.
  • Review and QC of agreed deliverables from biostatistics vendors/collaborators (e.g. statistical analysis plans protocol sections reports).
  • Communicate and ensure compliance of vendors and other relevant third parties with CDD SOPs and working practices.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to the importance of increasing equality diversity and inclusion in CRUK’s drug development and clinical trial portfolio.



What expertise are we looking for

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working as a trial statistician for early phase oncology studies including firstinhuman trials.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statistical methodology including frequentist and Bayesian methods
  • Excellent understanding of oncology drug development including current and emerging treatment paradigms and incorporation of clinical and translational endpoints.
  • Fluency in statistical programming language e.g. R or Stata.



Desirable

  • Experience of working in the pharma or biotech sector
  • PhD in Statistical Science
  • Late phase development experience.
