Outreach Coordinator for Safe Routes to School Program

AECOM has a position available for an Outreach Coordinator for our Clients Safe Routes to School Program.  This role is responsible for the North / Northeast region of Massachusetts but based out of the Boston MA office.  In this position the Outreach Coordinator will be a member of the Safe Routes to School outreach team a program of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.  This is a hybrid position and you will be expected to work out of the downtown Boston office when not visiting partner locations (office frequency is determined by your manager).

Safe Routes to School works with schools communities students and families to increase biking and walking among elementary middle and high school students in the Commonwealth. We promote a collaborative communityfocused approach that fosters mutual partnerships between advocacy groups law enforcement education leaders and public health departments that all work together to promote safer routes for elementary middle and high school students to get to school.

As a Safe Routes to School Outreach Coordinator you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with public elementary middle and high schools along with municipal and community stakeholders within the North / Northeast region of Massachusetts.  You will assist partner schools and communities with the implementation of schoolbased travel options for elementary middle school and high school students.  You will work in a fastpaced team environment following an outreach model with goals and performance metrics. 

Job Description:

Performs a range of outreach transportation and marketing tasks aimed at enhancing opportunities for Massachusetts elementary middle and high school students to utilize healthy active means of transportation with a primary focus on walking and cycling to/from school. Develop promote and/or implement a range of schoolbased programs with the goal to teach and inspire children to start walking and bicycling more often to and from school improving their physical health safety and community.

The responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:

• Maintain outreach responsibilities in the North / Northeast region of Massachusetts through activities that include but are not limited to:
• Developing successful partnerships with existing and new partner schools and their stakeholders. 
• Preparing clear/concise writing of presentations/reports and creating/maintaining interpersonal communication with community stakeholders 
• Energetic and articulate individual who has the communication skills and persuasiveness necessary to influence motivate and inform schools and families in the use of travel options statewide
• Deepening existing SRTS partner relationships through frequent contact and followup meetings tracking program implementation and student participation.
• Promoting bicycling and walking for school trips.  Educating parents/guardians students school personnel and community representatives on the benefits of these modes as opposed to family dropoff/pickup of students.
• Providing customized assistance as schools implement Safe Routes education encouragement engagement and evaluation activities.
• Assisting with school and communitybased SRTS plans and guiding the implementation of walking and cycling programs.
• Increasing participation rates and program awareness among parents/guardians students and stakeholders at school partner locations.
• Coordinating Safe Routes events at participating schools.
• Generating measurable results from school and student participation in Safe Routes initiatives.
• Reporting on outreach activities and maintaining a current accurate database of school contacts and participation.
• Attending networking and public meetings to raise program visibility.
• Conducting presentations and writing detailed reports for schools stakeholders and community groups.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements

• BA/BS or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Field office work requires the ability to travel in the North / Northeast region of Massachusetts as requested to project sites for partner meetings and/or presentations
• Valid US Drivers License is required for this position. As a condition of employment selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
• The ability to lift and carry presentation equipment that may weigh up to 30 lbs. 

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of business development education sales marketing outreach transportation planning or other relevant business experience is helpful
• Bachelor degree in Marketing Education Communications Transportation Planning Health or related field is preferred
• Knowledge of the Safe Routes to School programs is a plus
• Experience working with SalesForce.com is a plus
• Bilingual skill in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese is helpful

• Having a car is not a requirement for this role; one may be provided for you as needed
• General office presence required in addition to frequent visits to project/partner sites
