The System Administrator is responsible foreffective provisioning installation/configuration operation and maintenanceof computer hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individualensures that system hardware operating systems software systems and relatedprocedures adhere to Commonwealth policies standards and guidelines.Responsibilities include systems administration engineering and provisioningoperations and support maintenance and research and development to ensurecontinual innovation. Install new / rebuild existing servers and configurehardware peripherals services settings directories storage etc. inaccordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Perform dailysystem monitoring verifying the integrity and availability of all hardwareserver resources systems and key processes reviewing system and applicationlogs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Performregular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions. Perform dailybackup operations and regular file archival and purge as necessary. Createchange and delete user accounts per request. Provide Tier III/other supportper request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.Diagnose and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate andcommunicate with impacted constituencies. Apply OS patches and upgrades on aregular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / addnew services as necessary. Upgrade and configure system software that supportsGIS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project oroperational needs. Maintain operational configuration or other procedures.Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Performongoing performance tuning hardware upgrades and resource optimization asrequired. Configure CPU memory and disk partitions as required.
