Job Description
At Checkout were rethinking how we do data. To ensure our solutions are scalable and our data is reliable were building a truly world class platform; a democratised streaming platform empowering data users across the business with easily accessible data in realtime.
Were looking for a visionary Data Platform Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform team; a pivotal position that will play a key role in driving this change and ensuring teams are reaping the benefits.
We take a Platform as a Product approach which is currently focused on three areas: Events and Data Streaming Data Lakes and Warehousing and GenAI use cases and the right candidate will be responsible for defining the strategy and driving the delivery of all three.
Key responsibilities:
Define the Data and AI Platform Vision: Develop and communicate a clear vision for a multimodal Data and AI platform aligned with the checkouts strategic goals
Data Product Strategy: Advocate for and define what constitutes a data product ensuring that teams understand how to create reusable highquality data assets
Build & Lead a HighPerforming Team: Be an inspirational leader and mentor for the diverse team of data and platform engineers
Foster Innovation: Encourage the team to explore and adopt modern tools and techniques to consistently evolve the platform
Platform as a Product: Champion this approach focusing on experience endtoend simplicity and usability
Drive a DataDriven Culture: Work closely with product engineering analytics and operations teams to ensure that data products solve real business problems
Training & Education: Lead initiatives to upskill teams on how to work with the new platform data tools and streaming paradigms
Evangelise Best Practices: Act as an internal advocate for eventdriven design data contracts and product thinking applied to data
Vendor and Third Party Management: Work with your third party partners to deliver exceptional service
Qualifications :
The ideal candidate will have:
Expertise in both streaming and traditional ETL data architectures
Strong knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS S3 Athena EMR Google BigQuery Snowflake Azure Data Lake ...) and containerization (Docker Kubernetes).
Proficiency in Python
Proven achievements with Platform Engineering tools and methodologies including CI/CD pipelines InfrastructureasCode and selfservice capabilities.
- Excellent leadership team management and project management skills
Excellent communication skills with the faculty to translate technical concepts into business outcomes for nontechnical stakeholders
Capacity to work in a fastpaced highstakes environment with a commitment to professional development and continuous learning
