Job Description

About the position


The Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT are seeking applications from highly skilled and qualified candidates for the position of Driver. The Driver will be responsible for driving staff to various research sites in Malawi and other parts of the South African region and ensure routine mechanical service to Alliance vehicles. He/She will also work closely with scientists support staff as well as colleagues from National Agriculture Research System (NARS) institutes and hosted entities collaborating with the Alliance.


Key Duties & Responsibilities.


  • Drive staff to and from research sites and other specific duty sites and ensure that vehicles are exclusively used for authorized trips.
  • Ensure timely and adequate vehicle repair and maintenance service to guarantee all Alliance vehicles are in good condition all the time.
  • Maintain vehicle register for purposes of monitoring and maintenance of vehicles.
  • Fill out vehicle movement logbook and summarize information into a monthly mileage report on movement of vehicles and fuel consumption.
  • Assist with field activities when in the field.
  • Perform any other task assigned.


Requirements

  • Minimum Olevel certificate or similar level mechanical training and advanced driving certifications will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 Years of experience preferably in an international organization with regional exposure.
  • Clean and valid driving license and a certificate of good conduct.
  • Experience with GPS and map navigation will be an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of word processing spreadsheet data entry and email software.
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written with reportwriting skill.
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Positive attitude courteous and strong service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Terms of employment

This position is a nationally recruited position based in Lilongwe Malawi. The initial contract will be for One year subject to a probation period of three (3) months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.


This position is graded at BG02 with a minimum Basic Salary of 244928.00 Malawi Kwach level in a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
