After 5 years of existence Descartes has secured a leading position in parametric insurance for weather and climaterelated risks utilizing machine learning realtime monitoring from satellite imagery & IoT. After a successful Series B raise of $120M USD we launched Descartes Insurance a full stack insurer licensed to underwrite risk by the French regulator ACPR. ABOUT YOUR ROLE
Descartes Underwriting is seeking a Data Scientist to join our R&D Team. At the core
of our companys strategy your missions will focus on making direct contributions to
the development of new models for New business lines (Cyber etc).
Your responsibilities would include :
- Conducting research on the modeling and emerging risks (cyber...) andmachine learning methods;
- Improving or developing new models to improve our understanding ofemerging risks (Cyber);
- Participating in the development of Descartes technological platform;
- Identifying implementing and deploying new statistical and machine learningmethods to differentiate Descartes from its competitors;
- Identifying new and innovative ideas and testing stateoftheart methodsbased on recent research articles;
- Collaborating with the business team to fully understand our B2B client needsfurther strengthen our technical excellence and to ensure our products areefficiently integrated into the underwriting process and meet our clientsneeds;
- Participating in our R&D sessions;
- Working autonomously and pragmatically to make appropriate technicaldecisions.
ABOUT YOU
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Graduated from academic institutions/universities with a specialization incomputer science applied mathematics or data science for business;
- Ideally a previous experience (longterm internship) in data science orinsurance.
SKILLS
- Keen interest in emerging risks or related topics;
- Highly skilled in statistics probabilities applied mathematics and machinelearning methods;
- Proficient in Python (e.g. pandas scikitlearn);
- Fluency in English (written and verbal communication) is required;
- Good command of one additional language (e.g. Chinese French ItalianGerman Spanish...) is valued.
MINDSET
- Eager to learn more on the insurance industry;
- Interested in weather and natural perils modeling with a focus on nat cat risks(wildfires hail tsunamis earthquakes...);
