Job Description
We are looking for talented Midlevel and Senior Backend Engineers with experience in Kotlin or any other JVM backend languages like Java and Scala to join several different Engineering Groups.
Our Engineering organization at Wolt consists of 700 Engineers working across 70 product teams. Some of us work on the visible parts making our services easy on the eye and some of us focus on the unseen magic happening behind the scenes.
Our Engineers handle the whole development process (business logic testing database & data streaming CI/CD analytics cloud) in an autonomous manner. They build things that are accessible and made to scale. They keep our systems in the best shape by simplifying the unnecessary complexity.
We make the decisions as a team and group of teams for our ways of working and we take architectural decisions together. Everyone plays a role in our future.
Our Engineers choose the best technologies that work for Wolt their teams and themselves. Making good choices means finding scalable robust technology that works in everyones best interests. The freedom to experiment and adopt the best technology benefits everyone.
The main stack for these roles consists for example Kotlin (Ktor Koin Spring grpc) PostgreSQL MongoDB Kafka Redis GitHub Actions AWS Docker and Kubernetes.

FinTech Group: dedicated to shaping the future of financial services at Wolt. Our Fintech teams play a critical role in enabling smooth and automated money flows for our customers merchants and courier partners as well as delivering financial products to them. To meet local requirements and provide the best financial solutions our Fintech engineering teams are at the forefront of building integrations and automating financial processes for local country teams supporting expansion in our existing markets and into new ones.

Merchant Integrations: Running a restaurant or a store while fulfilling delivery orders is hard work that can be made easy with automation. This is where our integration platform comes in. We help our merchant partners automate the manual work with our API and integration offerings. Once a merchant has these integrations in place their staff are free to do what they do best service consumers without being bogged down by mundane repetitive and error prone manual processes. Through our API platform we ensure that the experience for our partners is best in class making it a breeze to work with Wolt. Be it orders going to POS (Point of Sale) systems automatically venue management item & inventory control menu & catalog automation our teams have our merchants covered!
Merchant Operations: In recent years we started expanding our delivery offering to new verticals beyond restaurant deliveries including grocery pharmacy merchandise flowers and apparel all referred to as Retail. That meant quite many new services and technical improvements as use cases and flows are more complex than ever. Our Merchant Operations subgroup consists of 4 different teams full of smart engineers creating new solutions to enhance our operational abilities with Merchants. Here we build merchant applications that help merchants run their daytoday operations. We also build all the relevant tooling from Product Catalog to Offer Management systems to make sure we can capture the full assortment of the merchants in the easiest way possible.
Merchant Engagement: Engagement focuses on Acquiring more quality Merchants and reducing the time and effort it takes to onboard them so they can make their first sales on Wolt. The group also aims to make bestinindustry selfservice experiences for onboarding & Imaging a unified Merchant portal where you can get everything you need done and insights dashboard to help maximize business performance
Retail Platforms (Wolt Market): Last year we took a leap forward with a dedicated product offering for Wolt Market Retail Platforms. Wolt Market is a chain of dark grocery stores available on Wolts well known delivery platform. Wolt Market delivers groceries to our users within 30 minutes. We successfully built from scratch several teams of talented Engineers Product Leads and Designers building internal tooling within the areas like warehousing assortment catalog and pricing.
Consumer Group: As the name Consumer Group implies we are responsible for building and developing Wolts consumerfacing products. Our mission is to master the user experience while scaling up the platform to enable delivering a mall in your pocket. Were humbled and proud to say our apps have the industrys highest ratings in the App Store (4.8) and Google Play (4.6). We believe that a great user experience enables healthy topline growth. We make sure our users find the right content from the platform and convert. We are here in the long term by retaining our customers and keeping them engaged. Currently the Consumer Group is growing especially in the front of AdTech and Search functions making sure we succeed in the abovementioned mission.
These open roles can be based in all of our tech hubs in Helsinki Stockholm or Berlin. This can vary depending on the exact team and their main location. You can choose whether you want to work from home from the office or hybrid.
Qualifications :
Wed love to see experience with Kotlin or any other JVM backend languages like Java and Scala but encourage you to convince us about your learning abilities if you come from a different background.
As a member of our team youll dive into the world of microservices primarily using Kotlin while remaining open to exploring other modern languages such as Python in some teams. We appreciate previous experience in handling the whole development cycle all the way to production.
But what truly sets you apart is your ability to tackle big challenges together envision scalability and availability and dare to question conventional decisions. Youll be successful in our teams if you quickly grasp new concepts and thrive in an environment of continuous learning.

We are hiring for a number of open positions across a few different Engineering Groups. The compensation will be a negotiable combination of monthly pay and DoorDash RSUs. The latter makes it exceptionally easy to be excited about our company growing and doing well as youll own a piece of the pie.
