Benefits of being a Personal Care Assistant
The role of this Personal Care Assistant
Our personal care assistants join our client s support team providing reliable essential care and support in their home. You will be employed by HomeCareDirect on behalf of the client and your focus will be to support them only. There are 2 x 16hour roles available with both PA s working together providing 2:1 support for our client. You will work from 4pm to 8pm 4 days a week. Our client has funding for respite care and you would need to be flexible to do this in addition to your contracted 16hours. This will be discussed and explained further during your telephone screening.
About the Client and Duties
Our client is a man in his 20s who lives at home with his mum and dad. He requires support with daily tasks to lead a fulfilling and enjoyable life. He has autism epilepsy and other health conditions that necessitate assistance to ensure his safety. While he has some understanding of his surroundings and emotions he tends to be quiet around new people but becomes more chatty once he feels comfortable.
Our client enjoys listening to music and taking part in community activities. Your role will involve supporting him in pursuing his interests such as visiting the cinema bowling shopping dining out/peoplewatching. Although he is mobile he uses a walker and wheelchair when outdoors.
He occasionally uses Makaton to communicate so familiarity with this would be advantageous. At times our client may display signs of frustration or anger. Experience managing challenging behaviours is desirable. It is however essential that you have prior experience in a care role with a background in supporting individuals with autism and learning disabilities (LD).
