Job Summary:
Post within the statutory service team covering Year 6 up to 25. Line managed by the SEN Operational Manager with supervision from our Senior Casework Advisor. The worker will manage a caseload of children and young people.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
1. Case Management and Support
Manage a caseload of children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) ensuring timely and effective assessment planning and support.
Work closely with families schools and other professionals to ensure that the needs of the child or young person are met and that appropriate educational provisions are in place.
Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) ensuring they are tailored to the specific needs of the child.
Monitor and review the progress of cases adjusting strategies as necessary to ensure the best outcomes for the children and young people.
2. Assessment and Planning
Conduct assessments to identify the needs of children and young people with SEN and make recommendations for appropriate services and interventions.
Ensure that all assessments and plans comply with relevant legislation policies and guidelines including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice.
Lead the development of Education Health and Care (EHC) plans in collaboration with other professionals and families.
3. Collaboration and Partnership Working
Collaborate with local authorities schools healthcare providers social services and other relevant agencies to ensure a holistic approach to supporting children with SEN.
Provide expert advice and guidance to schools parents and external agencies on SENrelated issues.
Act as a liaison between families and education providers advocating for the best interests of the child.
4. Training and Support
Provide training and support to education staff school SENCOs and other professionals to build capacity and improve understanding of SEN and inclusion.
Keep up to date with developments in SEN legislation and best practice and share knowledge with colleagues and stakeholders.
5. Record Keeping and Reporting
Maintain accurate uptodate case records and ensure all documentation is compliant with data protection regulations.
Prepare reports and provide updates on caseloads to senior management ensuring that key information is communicated effectively.
6. Advocacy and Representation
Represent the interests of children and young people with SEN in multiagency meetings tribunals and other settings.
Ensure that the voices of children and families are heard and represented in decisionmaking processes.
7. Monitoring and Evaluation
Regularly monitor the effectiveness of SEN provision identifying areas for improvement and ensuring continuous development.
Conduct evaluations to assess the impact of interventions and the success of IEPs and EHC plans.
Skills/Experience:
1. Experience and Knowledge of SEN
Extensive experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including complex cases.
Strong knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice relevant legislation (e.g. Children and Families Act 2014) and current best practices in SEN support.
2. Case Management Skills
Proven experience managing a caseload prioritizing tasks and ensuring that deadlines are met while delivering highquality outcomes for service users.
Ability to manage complex sensitive situations and make informed decisions based on a comprehensive understanding of the needs of children with SEN.
3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with children families schools and other professionals.
Strong advocacy skills with the ability to represent the interests of children and families in meetings and hearings.
4. Problem Solving and Decision Making
Ability to think critically and analytically making decisions based on evidence and professional judgment to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people with SEN.
Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to develop and implement solutions for complex cases.
5. Collaboration and Teamwork
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams with the ability to build strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and external partners.
Ability to provide guidance and support to others including education staff and families.
6. Organizational and Administrative Skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and caseloads efficiently.
Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records ensuring compliance with data protection laws and organizational policies.
