Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Lesson Planning and Curriculum Delivery:

  • Creating Lesson Plans: Develop and deliver well-structured lesson plans that align with the curriculum and educational standards. These lessons should cover various topics in chemistry, such as atomic theory, chemical reactions, thermodynamics, organic chemistry, and laboratory safety.
  • Practical and Theoretical Teaching: Teach both theoretical concepts and practical laboratory skills. This includes explaining chemical theories and laws, as well as guiding students through experiments that illustrate these principles.
  • Using Various Teaching Methods: Use a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, group discussions, hands-on experiments, and demonstrations to cater to different learning styles and to make the subject engaging and understandable.

2. Laboratory Supervision:

  • Conducting Experiments: Lead students through chemistry experiments in the laboratory. These activities may include synthesizing chemicals, conducting titrations, exploring properties of substances, or analyzing chemical reactions.
  • Ensuring Laboratory Safety: Make sure students understand and follow safety protocols in the lab. This includes using protective equipment like goggles and gloves, handling chemicals responsibly, and knowing what to do in case of an emergency.
  • Lab Preparation: Prepare lab materials, chemicals, and equipment for each experiment. Ensure that lab spaces are clean, organized, and well-maintained for effective and safe student use.

3. Assessment and Monitoring Student Progress:

  • Grading and Feedback: Assess student performance through regular quizzes, tests, homework assignments, and laboratory reports. Provide timely, constructive feedback to help students understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Tracking Progress: Monitor each student’s progress throughout the term, adjusting teaching methods as necessary to meet their individual learning needs. Offer additional support to struggling students or provide enrichment activities to those excelling.
  • Providing Exam Preparation: Prepare students for exams by reviewing key concepts, conducting practice sessions, and providing guidance on how to approach problem-solving questions.

4. Student Support and Differentiation:

  • Offering Extra Help: Provide additional help for students who may need extra assistance in understanding difficult concepts or catching up on missed lessons. This could be in the form of one-on-one tutoring, after-school help, or differentiated activities for diverse learning levels.
  • Encouraging Scientific Curiosity: Inspire students to ask questions, engage in scientific inquiry, and develop an interest in chemistry both inside and outside the classroom. Encourage independent research and exploration of chemistry-related topics.
  • Promoting STEM Education: Foster an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by connecting chemistry with real-world applications, such as environmental science, medicine, and materials engineering.
