Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.

▪ Work closely with the Principal to establish effective and globally relevant practices of learning & teaching. Implement the schools vision for quality in the school linked with the GEMS expectation of excellent education.

▪ Integrate GEMS core values into the planning and delivery of all curricular and co-curricular lessons and activities.

▪ Develop monitoring and evaluation systems to assess teaching

and learning standards, and implement any necessary improvement strategies.

▪ Assist staff develop professionally and meet time based improvement targets.

▪ Conduct needs based lesson observation / lesson appraisal and provide focused feedback in order to meet school targets.

▪ Develop positive links with parents and the wider community through consistent and clear communication.

▪ Liaise with the Registrar regarding new student’s needs, induction procedures, admission testing etc.

▪ Ensure provision of support classes / activity programmes, educational trips, assemblies & special days.

▪ Assist with Parent – Teacher meetings, Charity drives, GEMS initiatives & other school events.

▪ Chair meetings & head committees.

▪ Manage budgets and undertake teaching and other Professional duties as delegated by the HOS, & SMT.

▪ Ensure the curriculum reflects the needs of the pupils and the standards & content required by the Regulatory board.

▪ Work with the HODs and coordinators to ensure continuity & Progression in terms of the school Curriculum.

▪ Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.

▪ Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.

▪ Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

▪ Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors.
Leadership and School Management:
Vision and Mission Setting: Develop and communicate a clear vision for the school, ensuring it aligns with the district's educational goals and values. Work with staff, students, and parents to create and maintain a shared mission focused on student achievement, equity, and school improvement.
Decision-Making: Make key decisions on curriculum, policies, and daily school operations, considering the needs of students, teachers, and the broader school community. Act as the final authority in many aspects of school governance.
Policy Development: Establish and implement school policies that ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for both students and staff. Ensure that policies comply with state and federal regulations.
Strategic Planning: Develop long-term strategic plans to improve student performance, school facilities, and educational programs. Regularly assess progress toward school improvement goals and make adjustments as necessary.


Desired candidate profile

University Degree
Recognised teaching qualification.

Skills:

Clear communication skills, verbal & written.
Strong ICT skills.
Excellent time management skills.
Good interpersonal skills.

Experience:

Track record of teaching in reputable schools ,
Demonstrable experience in a Senior Leadership role
Experience in Change Management.
Professional Development and Growth:
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest educational trends, research, and policies by attending professional development workshops, conferences, and training. Implement best practices in leadership and education to improve school outcomes.
Leadership Development: Develop leadership skills to effectively guide and manage a school, including honing decision-making, conflict resolution, and interpersonal communication skills.
Mentoring and Coaching: Mentor other administrators, teachers, or staff members who are in leadership roles or interested in pursuing educational leadership positions.
Key Skills and Attributes for an Effective Elementary School Principal:
Strong Leadership Skills: The ability to lead, motivate, and inspire both students and staff while making decisions that positively impact the school community.
Communication Skills: The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, teachers, parents, and the community. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
Problem-Solving Abilities: The capacity to analyze complex issues and make decisions that resolve conflicts, address challenges, and improve the school environment.
Organizational and Time Management Skills: The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, ensuring that everything runs smoothly within the school.
Empathy and Emotional Intelligence: A principal must be approachable and empathetic, understanding the needs and emotions of students, staff, and parents.
Adaptability and Resilience: The ability to adapt to changes in education policies, technologies, and challenges, while maintaining a positive outlook and guiding the school through transitions.
Commitment to Student Success: A strong passion for ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
