Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching Responsibilities:

• Course Instruction: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in data science, including topics such as data analysis, machine learning, statistical modeling, data visualization, big data technologies, data mining, artificial intelligence, and data ethics.
• Curriculum Development: Develop and update course content, syllabi, and instructional materials for data science courses. Ensure that the curriculum reflects the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in data science.
• Hands-On Learning: Facilitate lab-based courses and projects where students can work with real-world datasets using tools like Python, R, SQL, and other data science software. Promote the use of machine learning frameworks, statistical models, and big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
• Student Assessment: Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, data analysis projects, presentations, and group work. Provide constructive feedback that helps students strengthen their analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills.
• Academic Advising: Serve as an academic advisor to undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in course selection, research opportunities, career planning, and internships. Mentor students through their capstone or thesis projects, ensuring they apply data science principles to solve real-world problems.

2. Research Responsibilities:

• Conduct Research: Engage in original research in data science. Research areas could include machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing, data ethics, big data analytics, data privacy, and computational statistics.
• Publish Research: Write and publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences. Contribute to advancing the field of data science by exploring new techniques, algorithms, and applications of data science methodologies.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty from other departments (e.g., computer science, business, engineering) on interdisciplinary research projects. Work with industry partners or government organizations to apply data science techniques to real-world challenges.
• Seek Research Funding: Apply for grants and funding to support research in data science, including government research agencies, private industry, or academic institutions. Prepare and submit competitive research proposals for projects in data science and related fields.
• Supervise Graduate Students: Mentor graduate students (MSc/PhD) conducting research in data science. Guide students on research methodology, data collection, modeling techniques, and publishing their work in academic journals.

3. Professional Development:

• Stay Updated with Industry Trends: Keep up with the rapidly evolving field of data science by attending conferences, webinars, and workshops. Regularly update course content to reflect the latest tools, techniques, and advancements in the field.
• Networking: Build relationships with researchers, industry professionals, and other academics to foster collaboration and enhance research opportunities. Participate in professional organizations like the Data Science Society, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and other relevant communities.
• Professional Certifications: Engage in further training and certification programs in specialized areas of data science, such as machine learning, data engineering, cloud computing, or data privacy, to stay current with emerging technologies and methods.

Desired candidate profile

1. The applicant must be a Saudi national.
-2. The applicant must have obtained all his/her academic qualifications from Saudi universities or recognized universities.
-3. The applicant’s grade for the position of Assistant Professor must not be less than a very good grade in all academic stages. Applicants who obtained a good grade in the bachelor’s stage are exempted from this in cases of academic or research excellence.
-4. The applicant must attach the “equivalency certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education for the academic qualifications he/she obtained from non-Saudi universities.
-5 The study system for the applicant in all stages (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) must be full-time and full-time. The applicant must attach the scholarship or assignment decision if he is a government employee.
-6 There must be an extension of specialization between the academic degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate).
-7 Attach the classification certificate from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (for applicants for health jobs).
-8 The applicant must provide the correct data matching the official documents and the required attachments during the application period.
