Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Are you passionate about NatureBased Solutions and ready to take on a challenge PRT is seeking a trailblazer to lead the development of our new NBS division. This isnt a plugandplay role; youll be building the foundation creating the strategy identifying highvalue projects and forging the path forward. Youll need a deep understanding of NBS carbon markets and ESG along with the entrepreneurial spirit to navigate uncharted territory. Working closely with the CEO youll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on PRTs sustainability initiatives and contribute to a greener future.

TIMING FOR START DATE:

We are ideally looking to fill this role between April June 2025.

LOCATION:

Ideally in Toronto Ontario Canada. (We can consider alternate locations aligned with any of our 28 nursery sites excluding Victoria BC).

WHO YOU ARE:

We envision you as a builder and an NBS expert with 3 years of demonstrated experience bringing projects from origination through funding and execution. You possess a solid understanding about the intricacies of carbon markets ESG frameworks and the diverse landscape of naturebased solutions. You are a strategic thinker capable of identifying emerging opportunities and developing innovative solutions to complex challenges. As a skilled communicator and collaborator you excel at building relationships with key stakeholders including landowners government agencies investors and community partners.

Youre driven by a passion for sustainability and a desire to make a tangible impact on the environment. If you are a selfstarter with an entrepreneurial spirit youll likely thrive building this new market from the ground up. Youll teach us about whats possible!

WHAT YOULL DO:

Market Analysis and Strategy:

  • Conduct indepth market research to identify and analyze emerging trends in NBS ESG and carbon markets.
  • Develop a comprehensive market entry strategy including target customer segments value propositions and competitive positioning.
  • Identify and pursue potential funding sources including government grants private investment and carbon finance.

Business Development and Sales:

  • Generate leads and cultivate relationships with potential clients partners and investors.
  • Develop and deliver compelling proposals and presentations that showcase PRTs NBS expertise and value proposition.
  • Negotiate and close deals ensuring alignment with PRTs business objectives and profitability targets.

Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including landowners government agencies NGOs and industry associations.
  • Represent PRT at industry events conferences and workshops.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Work closely with internal teams (e.g. sales marketing operations) to ensure seamless project development and delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of PRTs overall NBS strategy and roadmap.

Qualifications :

WHAT YOU BRING:

Solid NBS Expertise and Market Knowledge

  • At least 35 years of demonstrated experience in the NatureBased Solutions field with a proven track record of success in developing and implementing NBS projects particularly those related to ESG grant funding and carbon offsets.
  • Indepth understanding of the NBS project lifecycle from initial concept and feasibility assessment through to implementation monitoring and verification.
  • Strong knowledge of carbon offset methodologies and standards (e.g. Verra ACR CAR) including carbon accounting project design documents (PDDs) and validation/verification processes.

Strong Network and Relationship Building Skills

  • Existing network of contacts within the NBS community including government agencies NGOs landowners investors and potential clients.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders fostering trust and collaboration.

Business Acumen and Strategic Thinking

  • Proven ability to identify and evaluate market opportunities with a strong understanding of market dynamics and competitive landscapes.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to assess project feasibility develop financial models and negotiate contracts.
  • Strategic thinking and problemsolving skills with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop creative solutions.

Leadership and Entrepreneurial Drive

  • Selfstarter with a high degree of initiative and motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building new ventures and driving innovation.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience working with forest seedling providers or in the forestry industry.
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g. environmental science business administration).
