The Commis Chef is responsible to prepare a consistent, high quality food product and ensure courteous, professional, efficient and flexible service that supports the outlet’s operating concept and Hyatt International standards.
Proven experience in a Commis Chef role with excellent use of various baking methods, ingredients, equipment and hygiene standards
Ability to multitask with good time management and work efficiently under pressure
Knowledge of best cooking practices
Culinary school diploma or qualification from a culinary school
At least 1 - 2 years of experience cooking in a well-established restaurant or full-service hotel
1. Baking and Food Preparation:
Preparing Ingredients: Assist with the preparation of ingredients for baking, such as measuring, weighing, and prepping flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and other baking essentials.
Mixing and Baking: Follow recipes to mix dough, batter, and other ingredients, ensuring proper consistency and texture. Operate ovens and other baking equipment to produce bread, pastries, and other baked goods.
Assisting in Pastry Production: Assist in creating pastries, cakes, pies, cookies, and other sweet or savory items. This may include rolling dough, piping, or preparing fillings.
Handling Specialized Baked Goods: Learn the techniques for baking specific types of bread (e.g., sourdough, baguettes) or other items like croissants, muffins, and tarts.
2. Kitchen Support and Cleaning:
Maintaining Cleanliness: Assist in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, ensuring that all work areas, equipment, and utensils are cleaned after use. Adhere to health and safety standards.
Organizing Ingredients: Help with inventory management, ensuring ingredients are properly stored and organized for easy access. This includes keeping track of stock levels and notifying senior staff when items need to be reordered.
Supporting Senior Staff: Provide assistance to the bakery team, whether it’s helping with mise en place (preparing ingredients), setting up workstations, or ensuring that baked goods are properly stored.
