Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Craft memorable experiences for guests while delivering prompt and professional service
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth operation of the event
Deliver exceptional, personalized service to guests at a variety of events
Uphold the hotel's reputation for excellence in service and attention to detail
Familiarize yourself with all menus and special offers, maintaining efficient communication
Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures to uphold service levels
Ideally with a relevant degree or diploma in Hospitality or Tourism management
Minimum 2 years work experience in hotel operations
Good customer service, communications and interpersonal skills are a must
Serving Drinks
Mixing and Serving Beverages: Prepare and serve alcoholic beverages such as cocktails, beer, and wine to pool guests. This includes familiar drinks like mojitos, piña coladas, margaritas, and tropical drinks that guests expect at the poolside.
Non-Alcoholic Drinks: Provide non-alcoholic beverages, such as water, soda, iced tea, and fruit juices, as well as mocktails (non-alcoholic versions of cocktails).
Taking Orders: Take drink orders from poolside guests and ensure that drinks are delivered promptly and accurately.
Providing Drink Recommendations: Offer suggestions to guests on beverages that suit their tastes, especially if they are unfamiliar with the menu or the ingredients.
Customer Interaction
Engaging with Guests: Greet guests in a friendly and approachable manner, offering great customer service by making them feel welcome and comfortable.
Creating a Relaxing Atmosphere: The pool bartender is responsible for contributing to a relaxing and enjoyable experience for guests, often by maintaining a friendly and upbeat demeanor.
Handling Special Requests: Address any special drink requests or dietary restrictions, such as creating custom cocktails or accommodating guests with allergies or preferences.


Desired candidate profile

Maintaining the Bar Area

  • Stocking the Bar: Ensure that the bar area is well-stocked with essential supplies like alcohol, mixers, garnishes, ice, and glassware. You may need to help restock or inform supervisors when supplies run low.
  • Keeping the Area Clean: Maintain cleanliness at the pool bar by wiping down surfaces, cleaning glasses, and disposing of trash. This includes ensuring the area remains tidy and organized for efficient service.
  • Monitoring Glassware: Ensure that glassware is clean, polished, and available in sufficient quantities for guests.
  • Bar Equipment Care: Handle and care for bar tools and equipment such as blenders, cocktail shakers, and ice machines, making sure they are in working order.

Monitoring Poolside Environment

  • Guest Safety: Ensure that guests are enjoying their drinks responsibly. In some cases, pool bartenders may also be responsible for monitoring the pool area for safety hazards and alerting lifeguards or security personnel when necessary.
  • Poolside Décor: Maintain a professional and inviting environment by ensuring the pool area remains visually appealing and conducive to relaxation.
  • Ensuring Responsible Alcohol Service: Recognize signs of intoxication and refuse service when necessary, following the establishment's policies and ensuring the safety of guests.

Cash Handling and Sales

  • Processing Payments: Handle cash, credit cards, or room charges from guests for drinks, providing accurate change and receipts. In many resorts, pool bartenders may use a point-of-sale (POS) system to process transactions.
  • Upselling: Actively promote higher-margin drinks, specials, or add-ons to guests, increasing sales and boosting the revenue for the bar.
  • Tracking Inventory: Keep track of inventory and alert management when products are running low or need to be restocked.
