Roles and responsibilities

Provide an excellent and consistent level of service to your customers
Ensure a clean and sanitary work environment in the kitchen and stewarding areas
Wash, clean and stock operating equipment and kitchen utensils
Basic knowledge of Kitchen Hygiene
1-2 years work experience as Steward in a hotel or restaurant with good standards desirable
Dishwashing and Cleaning
Wash Dishes and Utensils: Stewards are responsible for washing all dishes, cutlery, glassware, and kitchen utensils using either industrial dishwashers or manual cleaning methods.
Clean Kitchen Equipment: Clean cooking equipment such as pots, pans, ovens, and utensils to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination.
Maintain Cleanliness in Food Preparation Areas: Stewards are tasked with keeping food preparation areas, countertops, and cooking stations clean, sanitized, and organized.
Clean Floors and Surfaces: Sweep and mop kitchen floors and wipe down all surfaces to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for food preparation.
Dispose of Waste: Properly dispose of food waste and trash in designated areas to maintain cleanliness and reduce the risk of contamination.
Assisting with Food Preparation and Service
Assist Kitchen Staff: Stewards may help with basic food prep tasks such as peeling vegetables, chopping ingredients, or assisting chefs with meal preparations.
Set Up Dining Areas: In some settings, stewards may help with setting up tables in the dining area, arranging tableware, napkins, and glasses, and ensuring that everything is in place for service.
Assist in Stocking Supplies: Ensure that the kitchen and dining areas are stocked with necessary supplies like plates, cups, utensils, and condiments.
Provide Support During Service: During peak times, stewards may be asked to assist with clearing plates, refilling water glasses, or helping to serve food to customers in the dining room.

Desired candidate profile

Inventory and Stock Management

• Monitor Stock Levels: Ensure that cleaning supplies, detergents, and other necessary equipment are stocked and available for use.
• Maintain Equipment: Clean and maintain kitchen tools and equipment, ensuring that they are in good working condition.
• Organize Storage Areas: Ensure that all kitchen cleaning supplies and utensils are stored properly and organized for easy access.

Health and Safety Compliance

• Follow Hygiene Protocols: Adhere to sanitation and food safety standards to prevent contamination and ensure a clean environment for food preparation.
• Ensure Proper Waste Disposal: Follow regulations for the safe disposal of kitchen waste, including food ss, trash, and cleaning chemicals.
• Monitor Cleaning Standards: Ensure that all areas of the kitchen, including storage rooms and waste areas, are kept clean and free of foodborne pathogens.

Other Duties as Assigned

• Assist with Special Events: Stewards may be required to support catering or special events by helping with food service, cleaning, or organizing spaces before or after events.
• Assist in Seasonal Tasks: During high-volume seasons or holidays, stewards may take on additional tasks, such as setting up large events or handling larger-than-usual volumes of dishes and kitchen equipment.
