Job Description

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the worlds busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Departments main goal is to provide fire protection emergency medical care and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire life safety and disaster preparedness along with enforcing public safety codes. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Departments core values.

The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) seeks a fulltime Supervisor of Nurses in the Bureau of Health Services. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer Deputy Chief Medical Officer and the Director the Supervisor of Nurses will oversee all nursing staff in the Annual Medical/Candidate Evaluation Unit and Duty Determination Clinic. This role involves coordinating nursing and phlebotomy schedules to ensure full coverage for the 7day/week clinic including weekends and holidays while managing lastminute adjustments to accommodate absences. The supervisor will be responsible for training new staff and conducting inservice training on updated protocols procedures and workflows to maintain high standards of care. They will assign and delegate work review medical documentation for accuracy and ensure that tasks are completed efficiently. Quality Assurance audits will be conducted regularly including reviewing incoming xray interpretations to ensure timely communication of clinical findings. The Supervisor of Nurses will collaborate closely with medical staff to develop diagnostic evaluations create treatment plans monitor patient progress and adjust care as needed. Additionally they will coordinate immunizations for probationary members and schedule registered nurses from temporary agencies to participate in bioterrorism preparedness drills. Maintaining an adequate inventory of medical supplies including medications and vaccines is a critical function as is ensuring proper record keeping in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and immunization records. The supervisor will also perform Quality Assurance for the EMR to uphold data integrity assist in case management while safeguarding patient confidentiality and ensure that all nursing staff remain HIPAA compliant. Lastly they will conduct performance evaluations manage Absence Control conferences and collaborate with HR to address attendance and performance issues as they arise.


Qualifications :

A valid New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
AND:
For Assignment Level I
In addition to meeting the license requirement above candidates must have three years of fulltime satisfactory experience as a Registered Nurse two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity within a hospital or other appropriate setting.
For Assignment Level II
In addition to meeting the license requirement above candidates must:
a) have completed a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program registered or approved by the New York State Education Department; or
b) have current certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by a national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department.
In addition candidates must have three years of fulltime satisfactory experience as a Registered Nurse one of which must have been working in the capacity of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
