AHRC New York City is seeking both a FullTime and a PerDiem Direct Support Professionals (DSP) for their Day Program in Far Rockaway.
Salary: $17$18 per hour depending on driving status. In addition this position come with a low to no cost comprehensive Benefit package...see Benefit information below.
Location: 2355 Healy Ave. Far Rockaway Queens
Schedule: MondayFriday 8hr. shift
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Program Supervisor the Direct Support Professional (DSP) will:
Support individuals with disabilities in leading selfdirected lives.
Supports individual with disabilities in becoming valued members of their communities.
Supports behavior that enhances inclusion in their communities.
Provide direct training and support in individuals home and/or community.
Empowers individual and their family by providing the support and information necessary to make informed choices and decisions.
Collaborate with individuals and others to plan and implement supports that build upon individual strengths choices and capabilities.
Develop and expand meaningful community opportunities.
Work with the supervisor on developing and implementing an effective plan and will ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations agency policies and agency values.
Helps build the selfesteem and assertiveness necessary to lead a selfdetermining life.
Use formal and informal methods to learn about the needs interests and desires of individual.
Assists individual in identifying the formal and informal supports available in his/her community family and social network and works with the individual to develop and sustain relationships with friends family and community members.
Assists the individual in managing every day aspects of life by utilizing habilitative strategies and providing supports in a manner that builds on individual strengths and capabilities and maximizes choices.
Pursues opportunities for professional growth and shares knowledge and resources with others. Assists the individual to overcome challenges through effective advocacy and the facilitation of selfadvocacy.
Qualifications :
Experience Personal or Professional working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
Knowledge of Home and Community Based Waiver and the ability to keep up to date pertaining to such knowledge and interpret same.
Valid NYS or TriState Drivers license for more than one year in good standing is Required for one of the two positions.
Understanding of Person Centered Planning.
Reasonable flexibility in work hours and ability to respond to the scheduling needs of the individual. May include early morning evening and/or weekend hours.
Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with program participants families staff and community agencies.
Ability to communicate both orally and in written form in English.
Ability to organize work with self and others
High School diploma or GED is required.
