Job Description

We are looking for sports coaches to join our Suffolk Positive Futures scheme in Lowestoft as well as Ipswich Haverhill and Newmarket

As a sports coach you will support this project by helping to deliver a programme of sportsbased activities to young people aged 1019. Many of the sessions include football as a main activity. In addition to weekly sessions there is the potential to also extend the role to include sessions over the school holidays. The emphasis is on raising young peoples aspirations selfesteem and personal development while developing healthier lifestyles.

As Sports Coach your main duties will be to:

  • Contribute towards the planning preparation and delivery of sportsrelated coaching and/or casual sports opportunities to young people attending the Positive Futures sessions.
  • Arrive in time to assist with setting up any equipment needed to run and start the class on time.
  • Work collaboratively with other Positive Futures coaches to ensure that the programme reflects the needs of the group attending.
  • Instructing the group with due regard to health and safety considerations and be aware of the projects health and safety procedures.
  • Attend training sessions as required.
  • Undertake record keeping and administration.
  • Keep all your coaching qualifications in date
  • Maintain frequent contact with the Positive Futures Manager and Coordinator
  • Participate in internal Catch22 and external training and staff development programmes as required.
  • Be fully committed to the active promotion of Catch22s equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
  • Seek to improve personal performance and contribution.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties that may be required from time to time

Qualifications :

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Level 1 governing body coaching certificate (e.g Football Association Level 1 certificate) or equivalent sports coaching qualification
  • Experience of coaching sport to young people
  • Experience in supervision of groups of children
  • Good communicator and organiser
  • An awareness of equal opportunities and equality and diversity
  • Selfmotivated
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Access to your own transport and a full driving licence.  

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Football coaching qualification
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Experience of coaching in a crime diversion/social exclusion setting
  • Knowledge of good working practices with young people
  • Understanding of the needs of socially excluded young people
  • Ability to work on own initiative to an agreed action plan
  • Experience of team work / leadership   


Additional Information :

  • Location: Lowestoft Ipswich Haverhill and Newmarket Suffolk
  • Pay: 12.50ph plus holiday pay
  • Hours: Casual approximately 3hrs per week additional hours available over school holiday periods.
  • Managed by: Suffolk Positive Futures Project Manager
  • Role is subject to a DBS check.
