Advanced Imaging Intern

Primary Function of Position

Within the Advanced Imaging and Intelligence group (AI&I) the Advanced Imaging team develops novel imaging capabilities to help surgeons see what they need to see ().

The intern will report to the Director of Advanced Imaging and be mentored by Advanced Imaging Engineers and Principals.

The main responsibility of this position will be to quantitatively investigate the impacts of sources of error on nextgeneration imaging modalities. Gathering information from a variety of teams the main responsibility will be to create a quantitative assessment of the effects of fieldrelated deterioration e.g. endoscope and light engine deterioration from surgical use on imaging models.

Essential Job Duties

Our prototype realtime imaging pipelines enable new imaging capabilities while allowing rapid development within a software environment.

We seek a Mastersenrolled candidate with strong software development and integration skills to understand these pipelines and their dependencies on endoscope and light engine characteristics. The work requires developing debugging and simulating testing using CUDA Python and MATLAB. As an intern you should be able to:

• Understand imaging stages and pipelines.
• Design/write code to create comparative pipeline results.
• Write tools for testing pipeline operation.
• Design experiment protocols for testing hypotheses.
• Document your work in detail and write examples for others to use.

Qualifications :

Required Skills and Experience

• Be able to read and understand complex software that involves Python MATLAB and CUDA components.
• Proficient with MATLAB and/or Python
• Comfortable with hardware/software interfaces
• Able to develop both on Linux and Windows
• Knowledge of camera sensors displays optics and illumination sources.
• Knowledge of computer vision/stereoscopic imaging is an asset.
• Able to communicate designs approaches and ideas well while accomplishing the goals of the project.
• Able to collaborate well within and outside of the core team
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

• University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degreeseeking academic program for at least 1 1/2 years (Spring 2027 grad or later) in the Fall.
• Internship Work Period: Must be available to work fulltime (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 1012 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Required Education and Training

• Current enrollment in a Computer Science Computer Engineering Electrical & Computer Engineering or related degreeseeking program.

We provide marketcompetitive compensation packages inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate) benefits and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role as actual pay will be determined based on several factors including relevant skills and experience for this internship degreeseeking academic program (PhD Masters Bachelors etc) year in school and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
