The Office of the Deputy Commissioner Equity and Inclusion is responsible for overall organizational development and implementation of the New York City Police Departments Equity and Inclusion programs and strategic framework. The goal of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is to foster equity through policy and regulation both in and out of the workplace and to increase supplier diversity for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). This is accomplished through transparency and accountability by applying nationwide best practices with our internal and external stakeholders.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is seeking a talented and motivated City Research Scientist to join the Research and Evaluation Unit within the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative equityfocused initiatives and help shape policies that promote fairness inclusion and diversity within one of the largest police departments in the world. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Analyzing complex datasets to identify trends disparities and opportunities for improvement in equity related outcomes.
Conducting research to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of equity and inclusion principles across NYPD policies programs and operations.
Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop strategies that promote diversity and reduce barriers to equity in policing.
Preparing reports presentations ad data visualizations to communicate findings and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders
Assisting in the design and implementation of new initiatives aimed at fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace environment.
Staying informed on the latest research methodologies and best practice in equity and inclusion to guide the departments efforts.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
In compliance with federal Law all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Qualifications :
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical biological and environmental sciences and public health) A masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and one year of fulltime experience in a responsible supervisory administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible fulltime research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a masters degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.

Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
