Roles and responsibilities

This position acts as a Technical and Regulatory SME, proactively managing sustainability and environmental issues within Ma’aden’s phosphate business unit. It aims to foster sustainability excellence and deliver strong performance by developing and implementing environmental management systems, including policies, standards, and procedures. The role ensures compliance with national and international regulations while minimizing environmental impact. It involves monitoring and mitigating environmental risks across plant sites to prevent harm and ensure long-term sustainability.

Additionally, the position serves as a site-level champion for Ma’aden's sustainability transformation, coordinating sustainability KPIs and driving initiatives and tasks to achieve operational sustainability objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

• Develop and implement environmental management systems (ISO 14001) with policies, standards, and strategies aligned with national and international standards.
• Regularly review environmental policies and procedures to ensure alignment with best practices.
• Promote best practices and drive innovation by leveraging internal and external ideas.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement in sustainability.
• Collaborate with training and operations teams to meet sustainability objectives.
• Lead the procurement of environmental permits and licenses from regulatory authorities.
• Monitor and evaluate environmental conditions and impacts at plant sites, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
• Assess socio-economic and environmental impacts and recommend mitigation measures to protect long-term environmental and community health.
• Address performance gaps and highlight areas of excellence.
• Ensure operational compliance with environmental permits and resolve related issues.
• Coordinate sustainability KPI collection and reporting.
• Oversee implementation of site-level sustainability initiatives, including ISO certification processes.

Desired candidate profile

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field, with interdisciplinary knowledge of phosphate production processes and sustainability.
10+ years of experience in environmental science within the chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, or mining/fertilizer industries.
Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
Proven ability to engage and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
Champion Ma’aden’s sustainability strategy by integrating KPIs into operational meetings and driving awareness programs.
Prepare reports for management on environmental impacts and compliance.
Develop and submit compliance reports to regulatory agencies and ensure alignment with corporate standards.
Produce accurate and timely environmental documentation and reports as required.
