About Our Team:

Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Nuclear Team in our Warrington office we are looking to increase our technical workforce and are seeking to recruit an Electrical Apprentice Technician to join our EC&I Electrical Control and Installation Team for a January 2025 onwards start with a view to enrolling with a training provider Sept 2025. 

Our Warrington Nuclear team provide multidisciplinary consultancy to the nuclear industry in both the nuclear new build SMRs life extension decommissioning and MoD sectors.

Projects include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed designs and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators government to private developers.

Heres what youll do:

As an Electrical Apprentice Technician you will be required to support a team of engineers on tasks including the following:

  • Produce detailed technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g. Autocad Revit Dialux AMTEC Electrical OEM).
  • Develop drawings and models for electrical elements including fire alarm lighting LV power distribution and control systems.
  • Update and maintain existing drawings and models as required.
  • Work closely with the Mechanical team and other engineering disciplines architects and other design team members to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Ensure all drawings and models comply with industry standards regulations and company quality procedures.
  • Preparation of designs deliverables using CAD and BIM software tools.
  • Preparation of design documentation; basis of design design method statements and specifications.
  • Develop an understanding of highly regulated industries.
  • Develop an understanding of Safety Cases and the supporting documentation.
  • Develop an understanding of risk and the preparation of designers risk assessments.

On the job support and learning

When an apprentice starts at AECOM we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks to support with any technical queries. We also offer our apprentices the flexibility of working on a range of projects in the various service offerings and technical specialisms that our Practice delivers. This helps establish their areas of interest and develops a firm sustainability grounding that will allow our apprentice to choose the direction of their career.

Apprentice Development Programme

In addition to your identified external training provision to complete an Electrical or Electronic Technical Support Engineer degree (Level 6) (usually delivered via day release or in block terms) our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructorled training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role.  We will provide you with all the support and tools you need to achieve your professional development ambitions including Chartership with the relevant international professional institution.  Professional institute qualifications you may be able to work towards include EngTech then IEng accreditation with the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET).

    • Apprenticeship candidates will typically have a minimum of 120 UCAS points (or equivalent).  This would typically be at least three A levels at Grades A*C including Mathematics Science Technology Engineering or additional Mathematics related subject or 90 credits in an Engineering BTEC at level 3.
    • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade C/4 or above including Mathematics & English
    • Able to meet requirements for baseline security clearance in the UK
    • Show an aptitude towards softwarebased engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software
    • Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Electrical Control and Instrumentation
    • Commitment to continued education and improvement through onthejob learning and training opportunities.
    • Creative practical adaptable and enthusiastic
    • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
    • Ability to think in a methodical way to design plan and organize parts of projects
    • English language proficient holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech drawings and reports
    • Able to carry out occasional remote working
