Accountabilities:
- Checks unverified laboratory results for accuracy prior to verification; investigates unexpected abnormal and/or spurious results according to laboratory policies processes and/or procedures
- Performs operation maintenance and calibration of laboratory analyzers and equipment
- Monitors quality control results and responds appropriately to discordant results
- Ensures specimen collection integrity transport and storage is appropriate for sample processing and analysis
- Refers discordant findings to appropriate personnel for further followup
- Assists at bone marrow collections; check specimen for acceptability; processes inhouse and sendout test requests
- Monitors temperature and expiry dates of blood and blood component products to ensure products are acceptable for transfusion; discards outdated or compromised products as required
- Checks operating room list to ensure blood products are available for required surgeries
- Issues blood and blood component products
- Actively participates in the Laboratory quality management system and process improvements
- Performs other procedures and duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory technology program or equivalent education (CSMLS)
- Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
- Minimum two years recent chemistry hematology and transfusion medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting is preferred or must demonstrate successful completion of all relevant education/refresher courses within the past two years
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity competence and professionalism
- Able to evaluate and analyze information to facilitate continuous improvement of the Laboratory process in the interest of quality patient care
- Strong multitasking critical thinking and problemsolving skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proven ability to be a team player; strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Meditech Paradigm and other Microsoft Office computer system
- Excellent attendance punctuality and work ethic

- May be required to travel between and work at all Osler sites
