Job Description
Accountabilities:
- Performs and provides microscopic interpretation of gram stains TB stains and other differentiating stains
- Operation and maintenance of the microbiology analyzers and equipment
- Identifies interprets and reports significant findings from infection control surveillance swabs and clinical specimens
- Knowledge and/or experience of blood cultures rapid diagnostic kits and PCR
- Report significant findings and reportable diseases to the appropriate health care providers (e.g. physician infection control practitioners public health unit etc.)
- Validation of inventory supplies and new products
- Recognition isolation and identification of significant organisms; performs sensitivity testing
- Disposes of biohazard waste according to protocols
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Medical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certification
- Minimum two years recent experience in a hospital microbiology setting
- Current registration with CMLTO in good standing
- Ability to recognize microorganisms using colonial and cellular morphology (gram stains)
- Distinguish colours and recognize smells pertinent to organism identification
- Familiar with serological and biochemical reactions that aid in identification of microorganisms
- Working knowledge of specimen setup protocols and processing in microbiology
- Must be authorized to practice in the CMLTO specialty microbiology
- Strong multitasking critical thinking and problemsolving skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proven ability to be a team player; strong interpersonal skills

- Excellent attendance punctuality and work ethic
- May be required to travel between and work at all Osler sites

Hours: Currently Days/Evenings/Nights including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
