Job Description

This position is in support of the Influx Care Facility located in Carrizo Springs TX.  The purpose of the facility is to provide comprehensive care for migrant youths ages 13 to 17 in the Care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) who are awaiting reunification or repatriation.  This care will begin as soon as the youths arrive at the facility and last until their arranged departure with family or sponsors. The comprehensive care includes but is not limited to initial screening and exams identifications of prior conditions and allergies day to day care of routine urgent and emergency medical conditions.  

The Occupational Health Specialist (OHS) supports the health and wellbeing of our employees within the workplace. The OHS will play a vital role in promoting occupational health and safety providing medical care and support for workrelated injuries and illnesses and implementing preventive health programs. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled healthcare professional to make a meaningful impact on employee health and organizational success. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical assessment and treatment of workrelated injuries and illnesses including first aid medical evaluation and referral to appropriate medical providers as needed.  
  • Manage cases of occupational injuries and illnesses ensuring timely and appropriate care and followup. 
  • Develop and implement health promotion programs and initiatives to support employee wellness and prevent occupational injuries and illnesses.  
  • Educate employees on preventive health measures ergonomic principles and safety practices through training sessions workshops and informational materials. 
  • Conduct preemployment health screenings and assessments to evaluate the physical and mental fitness of job applicants for specific roles.  
  • Review medical histories perform physical examinations and assess candidates ability to perform job duties safely and effectively. 
  • Implement health surveillance programs to monitor and track the health status of employees exposed to occupational hazards such as noise chemicals and radiation.  
  • Conduct periodic health screenings tests and assessments to detect early signs of occupationalrelated health conditions. 
  • Collaborate with safety professionals environmental health specialists and management to identify workplace hazards and assess risks to employee health and safety.  
  • Recommend and implement control measures to mitigate hazards and improve occupational health outcomes. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses including ergonomic assessments job hazard analyses and safety training programs.  
  • Conduct investigations of workplace incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications :

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health NurseSpecialist (COHNS) certification preferred. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in occupational health employee health or related field with demonstrated expertise in occupational health services case management and regulatory compliance. 
  • Knowledge of occupational health regulations standards and best practices including OSHA ADA FMLA and workers compensation regulations. 
  • Strong clinical assessment diagnostic and treatment skills. 
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and problemsolving skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and occupational health software. 

Experience Preferred: 

  • Experience working on ORR programs preferred. 

Education Required: 

  • Bachelors degree in nursing occupational health public health or related field; masters degree preferred. 
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Nurse Practitioner (NP) Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Texas or Compact State as applicable.  
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) preferred. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS). 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred. 
  • Experience in Pediatrics Medical Pediatrics Family Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Room settings is strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred. 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • Must be a US Citizen or possess a permanent resident card. 
  • Current MRPT Clearance preferred. 
  • Eligible to receive a federal tier II clearance and Pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Check.
  • Must be able to relocate to site for duration of the contract. 


Additional Information :

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.

Compensation  Min: $33hr        Max: $43hr
