The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government City agencies and City employees vendors with City contracts individuals and entities that receive City funds.
DOI is seeking an entrylevel Investigator to conduct confidential investigations concerning fraud and corruption and inquiries about the affairs operations methods programs accounts personnel and efficiency of City agencies City employees and vendors and recipients of City funds. This position is within a unit that specializes in among other things embezzlement and fraud involving City contracts. The Investigators duties may including but are not limited to: developing investigative plans and strategies; identifying obtaining and analyzing relevant evidence and records; conducting interviews; participating in field work including undercover surveillance; executing search warrants and arrests; working with other investigative/law enforcement/prosecutorial agencies; testifying in a grand jury and/or court; and/or developing an understanding of City policies procedures and programs. The Investigator may from timetotime work on multidisciplinary teams with other DOI investigators auditors and City agency staff. The selected candidate should be able to identify gather and analyze relevant evidence and data and must be able to draft written reports memoranda referrals and policy recommendations. This position is ideally suited for a candidate with some investigative experience who is interested in law enforcement and who is inquisitive resourceful detailoriented selfmotivated and able to perform effectively both independently and as part of a team. Confidential Investigators will need to successfully complete a training program in relevant law enforcement and investigative tools and techniques. This training may lead to certification as a New York State Peace Officer.
If selected the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation during which the candidates consumer credit history will be reviewed as otherwise permitted by NYC Administrative Code 8107(24)(b)(2)(A).

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau Suffolk Putnam Westchester Rockland or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
Qualifications :
1. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation auditing law enforcement security inspections or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
2.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above.
