Job Description

SUMMARY

Inspector evaluates parts coming from manufacturing to determine their status and condition. Depending upon results of evaluation parts are either routed to next operation or packaged for shipment. Evaluation is primarily visual but mechanical and optical measuring instruments are also used. Inspector must be tolerant of common solvents (such as acetone alcohol and soapy water) which are used in the cleaning process. Inspector must have a good manual dexterity and close vision. Inspections are done in a cleanroom atmosphere which may require wearing of face mask and other clean room apparel. Job is somewhat repetitive technical and requires close attention to detail. Some simple computer skills are required.

Inspector I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.

Inspector II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.

  • Counting parts
  • Taking inventory
  • Runout/focal checks on pearl microscope and Trioptics
  • C.T. gage set up
  • Calibration awareness
  • Use and care of mikes indicators eye loupes calipers
  • Inspection flow
  • General sampling plan and guide
  • Surface quality inspection
  • Recording of lot numbers
  • Repair/Reject storage
  • Standard packaging
  • Packaging of parts requiring lot numbers
  • Crimping lenses in cells
  • Laying out repairs
  • Putting arrows on edges of lenses
  • Pointing lenses for centering
  • Stamping of envelopes
  • Histograms using computer
  • Testing quartz for fluorescence
  • Storage of dead jobs
  • Processing customer finished parts
  • Processing customer furnished blanks and raw material
  • Special inspection reports
  • Filling out First Article of Inspection Reports
  • Printing labels

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is generally required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle parts. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee must be able to see up close in order to check quality of work.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because a person working in this position under the influence of drugs or alcohol including medical marijuana may constitute a threat to health or safety which includes but is not limited to working with hazardous or flammable materials operating repairing maintaining or monitoring machinery or motor vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
