Role: Cisco Network Engineer
Type: Full Time with Benefits
Location: Washington DC .
This is a hybrid role onsite 2 days a week.
We are seeking a fulltime Network Support Engineer. The Network Engineer is responsible for executing all technical aspects of network implementation and support. This includes all data networks (local and wide) voice networks including connectivity and assist with voice systems (on premise and cloud) video networks and equipment wireless and remote connectivity. The Network Engineer partners with all related service providers IT peers and the business as the need arises. The Network Engineer also serves as a strong consultant to the various enterprise business units and the various applications and site technical teams.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports and maintains global wide area and local area network infrastructures along with technology related to running a global network.
- Works with strategic network alliances especially with technology partners to enhance the business units competitive positioning.
- Ensure technical standards and process are followed to ensure reliable well performing data voice and video capabilities.
- Ensures all technology deployments are properly implemented documented and supported.
- Works in a consultative fashion with other departments to ensure all networking needs are met.
- Monitors network performance to ensure service levels are achieved or exceeded on a consistent basis.
- Remain current with emerging industry trends identify new functionality to meet business needs and foster knowledge sharing.
- Work with minimal supervision and be responsible for independently making a broad range of critical decisions. Apply sound judgment escalating issues and decisions to the appropriate executive when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Working knowledge of Cisco Networking hardware products particularly the 9000 series of LAN switches and wireless products
- Strong understanding of monitoring systems and protocols such as SNMP SYSLOG NETCONF TFTP. Knowledge and experience with Whats Up Gold monitoring solution preferred.
- Basic understanding of LAN layout and device connectivity fiber backbone connectivity portchanneling trunking VLANS
- Basic understanding of telemetry device tracking Netflow NBAR
- Basic connectivity troubleshooting knowledge Routing EIGRP BGP ARP MACTables Trace Routes Wireshark captures
- Basic understanding of UPS and power distribution systems
- Basic understanding of LAN switch stack technology
- Ability to troubleshoot user connectivity problems
DESIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Cisco Networking Products 9000 series of switches and wireless devices
- Cisco CCNA or Network Certified
