The NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is one of the largest organizations of its kind committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City. Collaborating with other public agencies and notforprofit partners DHS works to prevent homelessness before it occurs reduce street homelessness and assist New Yorkers to transition from shelter into appropriate permanent housing.
The Facilities and Logistics Division (F&L) is responsible for providing both direct and indirect maintenance and repair services to City owned and operated facilities using inhouse skilled tradeworkers maintenance contracts and purchasing operation. F&L is responsible for monitoring DHS shelters as it relates to the maintenance of building systems. The F&L guides shelter staff on ways to improve facility conditions and the goal of this unit is to ensure funds are being spent on preventive and general maintenance to avoid premature failure of building systems.
The Facilities & Logistics Division is recruiting for two (2) Plumbers who will:
Install repair and maintain plumbing systems including piping of all kinds fittings fixtures and drainage systems.
Read and interpret blueprints schematics and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems.
Inspect plumbing systems and identify issues such as leaks clogs or worn parts.
Repair or replace broken pipes fixtures and other plumbing components.
Test plumbing systems for leaks and other problems.
Collaborate with contractors construction workers and other professionals on plumbing installation projects.
Ensure compliance with local state and federal plumbing codes and regulations
Provide estimates for plumbing work and order necessary materials and supplies.
Maintain accurate records of work performed including details of repairs and installations.
Respond to plumbing emergencies and provide timely effective solutions.
Stay up to date with the latest plumbing techniques tools and technologies.
Operate a motor vehicle.
Work Location: 10107 Farragut Road Brooklyn NY
Hours/Schedule: Monday Friday/ 8am 4:00pm
Qualifications :
(1) Five years of fulltime satisfactory experience as a plumber acquired within the last ten years; or
(2) Not less than three years of fulltime satisfactory experience described in 1 above plus sufficient fulltime experience as a plumbers helper or apprentice or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade school technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable plumber experience.
The apprenticeship must be recognized by the New York State Department of Labor the U.S. Department of Labor or any apprenticeship council which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. The schooling must be approved by a states Department of Education or comparable agency. Each year of helper or apprentice experience or approved schooling is equivalent to six months of satisfactory plumber experience up to a maximum of two years of satisfactory experience.
Driver License Requirement: You must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. If you have moving violations license suspension or an accident record you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
