Job Description

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)s Office of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (REES) situated within NYCHAs Department of Resident Services Partnerships and Initiatives (RSPI) is charged with working to develop and implement programs policies and collaborations to measurably support residents increased economic opportunities with a focus on asset building employment advancement adult education and training and business development.

NYCHA has implemented a Zone Model approach which leverages NYCHAs and partner resources to expand economic opportunity for public housing residents through placebased service coordination. Through this new approach REES enables NYCHA to (1) Generate more economic opportunities for NYCHA residents and NYCHA neighborhoods while strategically investing and leveraging NYCHAs spend; (2) Provide a more comprehensive economic empowerment platform with additional capacities around financial literacy asset building and business development; (3) Reduce the duplication of services better investing limited resources; (4) Enable NYCHA to be a better partner to communitybased organizations government agencies philanthropies community colleges schools employers and other key stakeholders; and (5) Drive more resources and investment into public housing neighborhoods.

REES seeks a dynamic Project Coordinator Financial Capability to join the Financial Capability and Resident Business Development unit which develops strategies programs and initiatives geared towards increasing economic outcomes for NYCHA residents in the areas of financial literacy/counseling and asset building to achieve the following goals: Starting or increasing savings; Accessing mainstream financial services; Establishing and/or improving credit; Reducing debt and increasing free tax preparation usage.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Financial Capability and Business Development duties of the Project Coordinator Financial Capability include but are not limited to the following:


1. Independently manage a portfolio of financial literacy and asset building projects including but not
exclusive to Free Tax Preparation Services CreditBuilding (including rent reporting as a credit
building tool) and Homeownership initiatives (including NYCHA related homeownership
opportunities).

2. Support the Assistant Director in the facilitation and structuring of strategic plans and special
projects.

3. Organize host and cofacilitate quarterly professional development trainings for financial
counselors who work to improve economic outcomes for NYCHA residents.

4. Work with the REES Assistant Director Financial Capability and Business Development to
adequately maintain key performance indicators.

5. Foster and manage partnerships with various community based and citywide financial capability
organizations and sister City agencies to facilitate necessary service referrals and achievement
of the stated economic goals for NYCHA residents.

6. Communicate with REES partners and industry experts to assess financial capability trends and
best practices.

7. Attend internal and external meetings with various administering departments and key stakeholders;
Make recommendations on policies and procedures.

8. Represent REES at occasional evening meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
