The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is comprised of 2000 employees and with an annual operating budget of over $1 billion is one of the largest organizations of its kind committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City. Collaborating with other public agencies and notforprofit partners DHS works to prevent homelessness before it occurs reduce street homelessness and assist New Yorkers to transition from shelter into appropriate permanent housing. DHS is responsible for management of over 200 facilities which mainly are individual and family shelters used as overnight residences for over 38000 adults and children. DHSs portfolio covers approximately 4M square feet.
The Client Responsibility Office exists to help the agency meet its core mission of supporting clients in moving from shelter to permanency and ensures that DHS contracted providers and clients understand and are held accountable to expectations of the Agency. The selected candidate will conduct clinical assessments and interventions with clients as well as coaching and consultation with the goal of supporting individuals and families in exiting shelter and establishing permanency. The SUP II (Social Worker) will be under the Direction of the Associate Commissioner of Adult Families Veterans and Special Services in the Client Responsibility Unit within the Division of Shelter Operations.
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) seeks to hire one (1) Supervisor II (SW) who will;
Guide staff in the development implementation and achievement of program goals including working with shelter providers to develop intervention plans facilitating sessions with clients and the community and linking clients to available resource and housing opportunities.
Handle administrative operational programmatic and related issues that might affect the Client Responsibility Unit
Liaise with other DHS staff; governmental agencies and communitybased organizations to ensure that all resources are being made available to clients.
Work directly with Senior Team Leaders and Team Leaders in this Client Responsibility Unit to ensure that staff are providing quality services utilizing all programmatic tools and documenting client progress and compliance or noncompliance with agency guidelines.
Provide support for shelter providers troubleshoot barriers and roadblocks affecting the provision of services and clarify DHS policies and expectations.
Coordinate and compile resources to help enhance the selfcare selfdetermination and independence of DHS clients.
Liaise with the DSS Chief Medical Officers team as needed to address client challenges as they arise during the client responsibility process.

Qualifications :
1. A Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and two years of fulltime satisfactory experience practicing social work utilizing one or a combination of casework group work and community organization methodologies at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
2. Certification/License Requirements: A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work license (LMSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of the date of appointment. Employees who fail to obtain their CSW or LMSW within one year after appointment will automatically have their probationary period extended for no more than six months. Failure to obtain the CSW or LMSW by the end of 18 months of service will result in dismissal.
3. Special Note: Section 424a of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with childcare responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report. The agency has the discretion to assign a candidate who has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report to a position with no childcare responsibilities.
