Job Description
APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE CASEWORKER CIVIL SERVICE TITLE AND IF YOU ARE HIRED PROVISIONALLY IN THE SUPERVISOR TITLE YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT.
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is comprised of 2000 employees and with an annual operating budget of over $1 billion is one of the largest organizations of its kind committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City. Collaborating with other public agencies and notforprofit partners DHS works to prevent homelessness before it occurs reduce street homelessness and assist New Yorkers to transition from shelter into appropriate permanent housing. DHS is responsible for management of over 200 facilities which mainly are individual and family shelters used as overnight residences for over 38000 adults and children. DHSs portfolio covers approximately 4M square feet.
The Division of Shelter Operations oversees the daytoday operations of the agencys Single Adult Adulty Families and Families with Children shelter systems both directly run and contracted providers. The work done in this Division centers on the rehousing of all shelter populations and the implementation of programming/shelter initiatives. This Division is responsible for making sure that services to the Citys most vulnerable population are delivered 24 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year and throughout the five boroughs.
The Department of Homeless Services is recruiting for two (2) SupervisorsI who will:
Provide technical assistance and supervision to the social services staff.
Supervise staff in the maintenance of case records ensuring that a continuum of care in mental health employment substance abuse and recreation.
Ensure case records are maintained per agency standards kept up to date contain pertinent information relevant to the ILP and meet the requirements establish by the NYS Department of Social Services (NYSDSS).
Review weekly statistical/narrative reports; evaluate staff in the performance of duties; coordinate and participate in case conferences; establishing and maintaining linkage to resources which meet the needs of residents: and develop and enforce staffing schedules ensuring that adequate coverage is always maintained.
Required to interface with DHS contracted sites and various City agencies in partnership in assisting our clients into independent living.

Hours/Schedule: Tuesday Saturday (2P10P) (RDO SundayMon)
ThursdayMonday (8A4P) (RDO Tuesday/Wednesday)
Qualifications :
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of fulltime satisfactory social casework experience.
