Surveillance Analyst Bureau of Tuberculosis Control

Open to candidates who are permanent in the civil service title of Public Health Epidemiologist or to those eligible candidates who will successfully file for PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIOLOGIST Exam No. 5140 within the filing period From: November 6 2024 To: November 26 2024.

The New York City (NYC) Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) is committed to preventing the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminating it as a public health problem in NYC. The core goals of the bureau are to identify all individuals with suspected or confirmed TB disease and ensure their appropriate treatment ideally on directly observed therapy (DOT) and to ensure that individuals at high risk for progression from latent TB infection to TB disease complete treatment and do not develop disease. To fulfill its mission and goals BTBC performs a number of integrated activities and provides patientcentered services in collaboration with local health care providers laboratories community partners and others. With a focus on public health and the needs of individuals with TB and their families these activities support effective TB prevention and control.

The Office of Surveillance is seeking a Public Health Epidemiologist I to join our office as a Surveillance Analyst. This person will conduct activities related to TB reporting including but not limited to monitoring and triaging incoming reports following up with providers to ensure timely and correct reporting and surveillance data QA and management within Maven. This individual will help to ensure that all persons with confirmed or suspected TB are reported and assigned for case management.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Review and managing incoming TB reports submitted by NYC providers electronically or by fax for accuracy and completeness; followingup with providers as necessary
Educate healthcare providers and infection control staff on TB reporting guidelines and procedures
Enter and updating surveillance data into the bureaus electronic surveillance and case management system (Maven) and ensuring appropriate assignment of TB cases and suspects
Collaborate with other units/offices in the bureau
Conduct analysis and review of surveillance data to improve and ensure data quality
Process and assign requests for hospital discharge of infectious TB patients
Handle and triaging calls coming from the TB Hotline
Other duties as required

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Strong computer skills
Interest and experience with TB and/or public health
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multitask
Ability to work in a team environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (MS word Excel etc.)

Qualifications :

1. A masters degree in public health or epidemiology from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in epidemiology; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of fulltime paid experience as a health professional in a position which requires data collection and the reading and interpretation of medical charts and medical information in support of surveillance and epidemiologic investigations.
