The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the worlds busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Departments main goal is to provide fire protection emergency medical care and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire life safety and disaster preparedness along with enforcing public safety codes. The Bureau of Fire Prevention cultivates a safer city for its citizens visitors and first responders by preventing loss of life and property damage from fire and other emergencies. We accomplish this 24/7 by identifying fire and life safety hazards; creating revising and enforcing the New York City Fire Code; reviewing plans for critical systems designed to protect and alert building occupants; licensing qualified companies to install and service fire protection equipment and systems; certifying individuals to monitor fire safety conditions; and educating individuals and businesses about fire safety. In addition the Bureau of Fire Prevention is critical partner with the Bureau of Fire Operations (Firefighters) and Bureau of Fire Investigations (Fire Marshals) providing assistance and guidance during postfire incidents and investigations; and coordinating with other City agencies on matters concerning fire and life safety. The Bureau consists of Fire Protection Inspectors lawyers engineers explosives experts and Fire Officers work together to save lives in New York City.
The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) seeks a fulltime Senior Management Consultant in the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Reporting directly to the Director of the Customer Service Center the successful candidate will: Provide expert consultative services for the executive officers of the FDNY Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP) or other officials both inside and outside of the agency concerning BFP issues. Perform research on BFP units to assist in the development and installation of management policies designed to assure optimal use of available staff provide recommendations for changes in approach to methods and procedures improvement of forms and instructions review of organizational functions and activities and to devise new control systems as required. Create management reports on Fire Prevention issues as reported through the Customer Service Center (CSC) to senior Fire Prevention Administration. Reports on all issues and provides research analysis on reported issues to FDNYBFP officials as required. Serve as the Fire Prevention Liaison with executive personnel from other Mayoral agencies regarding overlapping areas concern involving the BFP. Manages CSC staff as it pertains to performance management and overall staff conduct create policies and procedures addresses management problems of great complexity and importance plays a key role in providing postmortem analysis of major events. Serve as the lead of special projects related to the CSC. Perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree issued upon completion of a four yearcourse in an accredited college or university and five (5) years of satisfactory fulltime paid experience in a major governmental agency or large private corporation or foundation in fire protection and explosives control work of which one (1) year must have been in management analysis in a supervisory administrative or consultative capacity; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent but all candidates must possess not less than one (1) year of supervisory administrative or consultative experience required.
Four (4) additional years of appropriate general experience may be substituted for the baccalaureate degree requirement. A masters degree in public administration or business administration or in an equivalent or equally acceptable program may be substituted for one (1) year of the required general experience in fire protection and explosives control work. Appropriate fulltime teaching experience in an accredited college or university may be substituted on a yearforyear basis for the required general experience.
