Job Description

The Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics brings together Griffiths formidable strengths in biomedical research.  Our Institute comprises more than 400 researchers and professional staff who are dedicated to the development of novel therapies vaccines and diagnostics for diseases of global impact and the translation of new solutions to improve human health.

We are seeking a highly motivated research fellow to join the Laboratory of Vaccines for the Developing World at the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. Candidates interested in translational research are encouraged to apply as this position will be involved in 2 key projects: a Babesia vaccine veterinary clinical trial and a Phase I malaria vaccine clinical trial. As well as working on their own projects the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to other projects within the laboratory.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

This is a fixed term (12 months with the possibility of an extension subject to funding) fulltime position based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campusAs Griffith is a multicampus University you may be required to work across other campus locations. Griffith Universitys campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul Yuggera Jagera Turrbal Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The base salary for a Research Fellow Grade 1 is in the range $86526 $101354 per annum plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package will be in the range $101236 $118585 per annum.


Qualifications :

The successful candidate will have: 

  • a PhD in immunology and or/infectious diseases. 
  • demonstrated experience or ability in laboratory work immunological assays cell culture and flow cytometry.
  • demonstrated experience with malaria/babesia parasite culture bovine immunology laboratory animal techniques.
  • good Laboratory Practices and good Manufacturing Practices would be advantageous but is not essential.

In addition to the above you will demonstrate:

  • a high level of oral and written communication excellent record keeping and good time management skills to ensure research activities are completed to the highest possible standards and within a set time frame.
  • an ability to work both collaboratively and independently across multiple projects supporting vaccine development.
  • a flexible approach to working hours where required in order to meet the requirements of the project.
