Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Teaching and Instruction

    • Plan and deliver a broad, balanced, and stimulating curriculum for young children (ages 3-5), in line with the EYFS framework.
    • Focus on fostering children’s development across the five key areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, Literacy, and Mathematics.
    • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages exploration, curiosity, and active learning.
    • Encourage hands-on learning through play-based activities that help children develop essential life skills.
    • Use storytelling, songs, games, and practical activities to enhance children's language, social skills, and creativity.
  • Classroom Management

    • Establish clear rules and routines to ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for young learners.
    • Maintain positive behavior management strategies, reinforcing good behavior and addressing challenging behavior with patience and care.
    • Foster a sense of responsibility and respect for others among students.
    • Ensure that learning areas are well-organized and equipped with age-appropriate resources to support development.
  • Assessment and Observation

    • Conduct regular observations of children’s progress and development to track learning outcomes and inform future planning.
    • Use formative assessments to identify areas where children may need additional support or challenges.
    • Record and document developmental milestones and areas for improvement, communicating findings with parents and caregivers.
    • Provide ongoing, constructive feedback to children that encourages their continued growth and development.
  • Individualized Support and Inclusion

    • Recognize and support individual needs, ensuring that all children, including those with special educational needs (SEN), are included and supported in the learning process.
    • Adapt teaching strategies and resources to suit the different learning styles and abilities of children.
    • Work closely with parents and other professionals (such as speech therapists or child psychologists) to support children who may need additional assistance.
    • Foster a nurturing environment where each child feels valued, secure, and confident to explore and learn.
  • Collaborative Planning and Teamwork

    • Collaborate with other EYFS staff and school leadership to develop and review curriculum plans and educational goals.
    • Contribute to team discussions, sharing best practices, resources, and strategies for effective teaching and learning.
    • Work closely with teaching assistants and other support staff to ensure that the classroom operates smoothly and that all children are supported effectively.
    • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events to continuously improve teaching practices and contribute to the broader school community.

Desired candidate profile

    • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and its application in early years education.
    • Ability to create an engaging, child-centered curriculum that encourages exploration, creativity, and social learning.
    • Experience using play-based learning strategies and making learning fun for young children.
    • Excellent communication skills to engage with children, parents, and colleagues.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Classroom Management Skills

    • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to foster a positive, nurturing environment.
    • Patience and empathy when dealing with young children’s needs, emotions, and behavior.
    • Ability to maintain clear boundaries, routines, and expectations for young learners.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills

    • Ability to build trusting relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with children, staff, and parents.
    • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support to children and their families.
