Job Description

Roles and responsibilities


We are especially interested in candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate education, working with diverse multilingual students. A PhD in Philosophy or related field is required. Experience in mentoring student research is desirable.

Teaching and Instruction

Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials on various branches of philosophy, including but not limited to ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, logic, political philosophy, and the history of philosophy.
Develop and update course syllabi, reading lists, and assignments to ensure the curriculum is current and reflective of contemporary philosophical debates.
Teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on encouraging critical thinking, discussion, and debate.
Promote an interactive classroom environment where students are encouraged to engage deeply with philosophical texts and ideas.
Curriculum Development

Contribute to the creation and continuous refinement of the philosophy curriculum, integrating new philosophical perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches.
Develop specialized courses in emerging areas of philosophy, such as environmental ethics, artificial intelligence, bioethics, and philosophy of mind.
Collaborate with faculty members from other disciplines to design interdisciplinary courses that incorporate philosophical inquiry into subjects like science, politics, literature, and law.
Research and Scholarly Activities

Conduct original research in various areas of philosophy, with a focus on publishing in top-tier academic journals and presenting at major academic conferences.
Contribute to the philosophical community through interdisciplinary research and collaborations with scholars from other fields.
Stay updated on contemporary philosophical debates and incorporate new theories and methodologies into research and teaching.
Supervise and mentor graduate students in their research projects and dissertations, guiding them to develop their ideas into publishable work.


Desired candidate profile

    • A proven track record of teaching philosophy at the undergraduate or graduate level, including experience in designing and delivering courses.
    • Experience in supervising graduate students, guiding them in their research projects or theses.
    • A record of scholarly research with publications in reputable philosophy journals or book chapters.
    • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration or teaching in multidisciplinary contexts is a plus.
  • Research Expertise

    • Specialization in a specific area of philosophy, such as philosophy of mind, ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, political philosophy, or the history of philosophy.
    • A clear research agenda and ongoing publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Expertise in both classical and contemporary philosophical traditions, and familiarity with the latest trends and issues in the field.
    • An interest in incorporating contemporary debates, such as those involving technology, bioethics, or environmental philosophy, into research and teaching.
  • Teaching and Pedagogical Skills

    • Ability to teach a wide range of courses in philosophy, from introductory courses to specialized advanced topics.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and providing feedback to students.
    • A student-centered approach to teaching, with the ability to foster critical thinking, open debate, and intellectual curiosity.
    • Familiarity with modern teaching tools and technologies, including online platforms and digital resources for engaging students.
