Job Description

RRD is looking for an energetic and highly motivated team member to join our team of Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility.

  • Operate web printing press to print quality production maintain quality of product lead and direct press crew maintain press and work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors

  • Set up adjust  operate and maintain a gravure press or multicolor offset press to print singlecolor twocolor and/or multicolor work which includes large solids screen tints line and halftones with critical color values and registration requirements ranging from hairline to critical.

  • Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run (sheet wise or work and turn).

  • Perform all makeready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders examine plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images prepping blankets adjusting tension and register etc

  • Makes necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work.

  • Clean lubricate and maintain the press making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required.

  • Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Act as a leader in providing and promoting a safe and injuryfree work environment.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press and press crew.

  • Responsible for over all quality of the printed product including color reproduction product specifications imaging quality and postal specifications.

  • Determines when product is suitable for saving.

  • Responsible for producing a samplequality product.

  • Monitors other crew members progress while performing their responsibilities.

  • Provides accurate documentation of time materials impressions waste and run speeds.

  • Communicates information effectively with other crews and departments scheduling prepress maintenance. 

  • Coordinates makeready process by reviewing job information establishing makeready plan and assigning responsibilities to crew members.

  • Responsible for maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press and using the Request For Action system to notify the maintenance department of issues with the equipment.

  • Other responsiblities as required

Must be able to work 7:00 pm to 7:00 am shift 3 days on/4 days off rotating every 8 weeks

$3.00 Shift Premium offered

Hourly Rate Disclosure Statement:   The pay range for this role at the noted location is $30.30 to $43.30 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon but not limited to: education skills experience proficiency performance shift and location. In addition to base salary depending on the role the total compensation package may also include overtime shift differential callin and standby pay. Qualifications :

  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of techniques procedures materials specifications equipment and safety requirements to set up adjust operate and maintain equipment to produce single two and/or multicolor work to critical tolerances.
  • Skill in a wide variety of complex manipulations and mechanical procedures to perform a variety of tasks to set up make major adjustments and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment to produce single two and/or multicolor work. 
  • Skill to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most appropriate press usage press settings and materials needed to run the job successfully.
  • Skill in use of a micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly.
  • Communication skills. 
  • Troubleshooting/ProblemSolving Skills Mechanical Aptitude Management skills coordinating the activities of other crew members. 

    High School Diploma or GED

    710 years of web pressprinting experience.

    Knowledge of inline finishing die cutting inserters imagers color and register required

    Must have worked in all positions leading up to this position (preferred)
