Job Summary: 

AECOM is searching for an Indigenous Relations Specialist for a fulltime position based in Calgary AB. 

This role will partner to build and implement strategies that promote inclusion representation and wellbeing for Indigenous employees. The Indigenous Relations Specialist will be responsible for enhancing the employee experience for Indigenous staff and will support procurement processes and branding efforts to ensure alignment with AECOMs commitment to Indigenous Relations and PAIR action plans and targets in aligned with the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Employment & Recruitment:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of recruitment strategies for Indigenous candidates.
  • Provide guidance to creating an inclusive work environment that fosters the success of Indigenous employees.
  • Work with HR and leadership to ensure equitable employment practices and retention initiatives are in place.

2. Blooming Program:

  • Assist with the development and coordination of AECOMs Blooming Program aimed at nurturing career development and leadership opportunities for Indigenous employees.
  • Support Indigenous employees professional growth through mentorship training and career advancement programs.
  • Work closely with managers and employees to ensure ongoing support and engagement in the program.

3. Cultural Awareness:

  • Cocreate and assist with initiatives to promote cultural awareness and competency across the organization.
  • Organize training and workshops with Indigenous employees and working group on Indigenous cultures histories and issues fostering respect and understanding.
  • Develop materials and resources to support ongoing cultural learning for employees at all levels

4. Indigenous Employee Support Network (IESN):

  • Support the development and growth of the Indigenous Employee Support Network (IESN) to create a safe and inclusive community for Indigenous staff.
  • Chair and coordinate regular meetings events and opportunities for networking mentorship and peer support.
  • Ensure the network is an effective platform for addressing the unique needs and concerns of Indigenous employees.

5. Marketing and Branding:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop inclusive branding and marketing strategies that represent Indigenous culture and employees.
  • Ensure that all external communications align with AECOMs commitment to Indigenous Relations and reflect the companys values of respect equity and inclusion.
  • Support the creation of materials that showcase the organizations efforts to engage Indigenous communities and employees.

6. Procurement Support:

  • Collaborate with the regional procurement to support processes that align with Indigenous values and priorities.
  • Assist in identifying and building partnerships with Indigenousowned businesses.
  • Contribute to the development of procurement strategies that reflect the organizations commitment to sustainability and Indigenous community involvement.

7. TraumaInformed Engagement:

  • Ensure that all engagement with Indigenous employees is rooted in traumainformed practices recognizing the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
  • Provide support for employees who may require additional assistance navigating workplace challenges related to their lived experiences.
  • Foster an environment of trust and support offering resources for mental health and wellbeing when needed.

 

 

 


Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelors degree in Indigenous Studies Human Resources or related field 4 years of experience in Indigenous relations human resources or community engagement or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures history and the unique challenges facing Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in program development and coordination with a focus on employee support and engagement.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners including Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • A demonstrated commitment to reconciliation equity and inclusion in the workplace.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in traumainformed practices or mental health support.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and building relationships with Indigenous businesses.
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset.

 


Additional Information :

  • Potential candidates must be First Nations Inuit or Metis and applicants must declare that they are in the application form and our HR management system if successful.

  • Occasional travel may be required for community engagement or training sessions.
