Overview
The Parttime Topical Phaco Surgeon Consultant plays a pivotal role in our ophthalmology team providing specialized surgical care to patients in need of cataract surgery. This is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative and patientcentered environment for three days a week performing advanced phacoemulsification techniques that ensure superior patient outcomes and satisfaction. The role involves not just surgical skills but also the ability to assess patient needs communicate effectively with healthcare staff and ensure the compliance with quality standards. As a consultant surgeon you will contribute your expertise to enhance our surgical services mentor junior colleagues and participate in ongoing education to stay updated in the rapidly evolving field of ophthalmic surgery. Key Responsibilities
- Perform topical phacoemulsification cataract surgeries.
- Conduct preoperative assessments to determine surgical readiness.
- Provide comprehensive postoperative care and followups.
- Collaborate with nursing and technical staff to ensure efficient surgery flow.
- Mentor and train residents and junior surgeons in surgical techniques.
- Participate in surgical team meetings and case discussions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Stay current with advancements in ophthalmic surgery techniques.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Handle patient inquiries and provide necessary consultations.
- Review and assess patient progress following surgical interventions.
- Contribute to improving patient safety and quality assurance initiatives.
- Engage in multidisciplinary team approaches for patient management.
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
- Participate in continuous education and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Ophthalmology.
- Advanced fellowship training in cataract and anterior segment surgery.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant surgical experience.
- Proven expertise in topical phacoemulsification techniques.
- Strong understanding of ocular anatomy and surgical principles.
- Excellent patient management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a teamoriented environment.
- Active medical license in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Commitment to ethical medical practices and patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work flexible hours as required.
