Job Overview
Our client is hiring for a direct hire for a Fleet Mechanic. This role involves skilled maintenance and repair of all Public Works Department vehicles and equipment as well as the upkeep of the Town garage. The mechanic works under the general supervision of the Superintendent and Highway Division Foreman with significant autonomy in decisionmaking regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Must have:
- High school diploma with additional technical or vocational training in mechanics; At least five years of experience in gas diesel and hydraulic repair work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid CDL B license with airbrake endorsement required
- Valid Hoisting license required
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles operating heavy equipment and using mechanic s tools
- Ability to lift/move objects climb ladders and operate tools and vehicles for extended periods especially during snow emergencies.
Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines including engine overhauls brake and suspension work electrical system repairs and clutch replacements
- Operate and document a preventive maintenance program keeping detailed records of all work performed on vehicles and equipment
- Repair power equipment and tools such as compressors jackhammers and mowers.
- Order and manage parts inventory prepare and maintain repair records and assist in developing vehicle specifications
- Operate vehicles for snow removal and sanding during winter plowing and perform emergency highway operations as needed.
- Ensure safe practices in vehicle servicing maintain a daily log of activities and update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System
