Overview
As a Captain you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operation and navigation of vessels ensuring the safety of passengers and crew and adhering to maritime regulations. Your leadership and decisionmaking skills will be integral in managing the crew and responding to emergencies at sea.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the crew ensuring efficient and safe operation of the vessel.
- Navigate and steer the vessel taking into account weather conditions traffic and other factors.
- Maintain communication with shore authorities other vessels and crew members to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and lead crew in responding to emergencies such as severe weather medical incidents or equipment malfunctions.
- Monitor and maintain vessel systems including engines navigation equipment and safety systems.
- Ensure compliance with maritime regulations safety standards and environmental protection requirements.
- Manage and oversee provisioning maintenance and repairs of the vessel and its equipment.
- Train and supervise crew members in safety procedures emergency protocols and jobspecific tasks.
- Prepare reports on vessel operations incidents and maintenance activities.
- Participate in drills exercises and ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge.
Required qualifications
- Valid Captains license and certification in accordance with maritime regulations.
- Proven experience as a Captain or in a similar leadership role on a commercial or recreational vessel.
- Thorough knowledge of safe navigation practices maritime laws and emergency procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively lead and coordinate a diverse crew.
- Strong decisionmaking abilities especially in highstress or emergency situations.
- Ability to solve problems and troubleshoot technical issues related to vessel operation.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform duties in various weather conditions and sea states.
- Attention to detail and adherence to safety and security protocols.
- Strong organizational and managerial skills to oversee crew maintenance and operations efficiently.
- Willingness to adhere to long hours irregular schedules and frequent time away from home.
