Job Description

Overview

The Captain plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of a vessel ensuring the safety and efficiency of navigation while leading the crew. This position demands not only technical expertise in marine navigation and vessel management but also exceptional leadership skills to manage a diverse team effectively. As the primary authority on board the Captain is responsible for making pivotal decisions that affect the safety of the vessel the crew and passengers. This role requires a deep understanding of maritime laws environmental regulations and the logistics of vessel operation. The Captains leadership is vital to maintaining a positive work environment and upholding the highest standards of safety and service. Being at the helm a Captain must also communicate effectively with shoreside operations regulatory bodies and other vessels to coordinate best practices and ensure seamless operations. Hence this position is instrumental to the organization embodying both technical proficiency and interpersonal acumen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Command vessel operations and navigation.
  • Oversee crew members and their training.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime regulations.
  • Conduct safety drills and emergency preparedness training.
  • Communicate effectively with regulatory authorities.
  • Manage daily operations aboard the vessel.
  • Maintain vessel safety and environmental standards.
  • Implement protocols for cargo handling and storage.
  • Ensure the vessel is seaworthy and wellmaintained.
  • Monitor weather conditions affecting navigation.
  • Develop and execute voyage plans.
  • Facilitate smooth communication with crew and passengers.
  • Address and resolve onboard conflicts professionally.
  • Keep accurate records of all vessel operations.
  • Manage budgets and resources associated with vessel operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters license and maritime certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience at sea.
  • Proficient in maritime navigation systems.
  • Strong understanding of safety and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Effective communicator in diverse environments.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving abilities.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and practices.
  • Experience in crisis management and decisionmaking.
  • Knowledge of cargo operations and management.
  • Ability to work long hours under pressure.
  • Physically fit for the demands of the job.
  • Willingness to undertake continuous training and education.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Proven track record of reliability and professionalism.
