Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations to assess patient vision and eye health.
- Diagnose and evaluate ocular diseases and disorders including glaucoma cataracts and macular degeneration.
- Prescribe corrective lenses and treatments tailored to individual patient needs.
- Conduct specialized diagnostic tests including visual field tests and OCT imaging.
- Provide patient education on eye health and preventative care strategies.
- Manage preoperative and postoperative care for surgical patients.
- Perform minor surgical procedures in the outpatient setting such as foreign body removal and drainage of eyelid cysts.
- Collaborate with optometrists and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Advise and participate in community outreach programs to promote eye health awareness.
- Stay updated with continuing education and recent advancements in ophthalmology.
- Utilize electronic medical record systems for accurate documentation and patient management.
- Facilitate patient referrals to other specialists as required.
- Assess and manage chronic eye conditions effectively.
- Provide consultation and treatment recommendations based on the latest research and guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
- Completed residency in ophthalmology.
- Board certification in ophthalmology is preferred.
- Current state medical license to practice ophthalmology.
- Strong knowledge of ocular pharmacology and treatment protocols.
- Experience with surgical procedures and techniques applicable to ophthalmology.
- Proficiency in using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.
